The US Military has stated that it conducted a "defensive" strike on Iran's Qeshm Island, while Iran has launched missiles at neighboring countries.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on June 3 that the U.S. military successfully countered multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones launched on June 2, and conducted a self-defense strike on Iran’s Geshm Island in response to Tehran’s attempted attacks across the Middle East. Iran fired several ballistic missiles at neighboring countries, all of which failed to hit their intended targets. Two missiles targeted Kuwait but either fell short of their target zones or disintegrated during flight. Three missiles aimed at Bahrain were immediately intercepted by combined U.S. and Bahraini air defense forces. Earlier in the day, CENTCOM forces shot down three Iranian one-way attack drones that were en route to civilian vessels lawfully navigating in the region’s waters. The U.S. strike targeted an Iranian military ground control station located on Geshm Island; no U.S. personnel were injured in the operation. CENTCOM stated that its forces will remain on high alert and prepared to repel any unfounded aggression from Iran during the ongoing ceasefire period.

The U.S. side claimed the Iranian missiles fired toward Kuwait and Bahrain missed their targets, with some intercepted by American military assets and local air defense systems. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), meanwhile, stated it used missiles and drones to attack the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters, a regional airbase, and helicopter facilities. Tehran said the retaliatory strike was in response to prior U.S. attacks on communications facilities in southern Qeshm Island and an Iranian oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.
