Williams: Supports Rate Cut, Estimates Neutral Rate at 0.75%

September 30th. On Monday, Williams of the Federal Reserve stated that the early indications of weakness in the labor market had led him to advocate for a rate cut during the recent Fed meeting. Williams said, "It was reasonable to slightly reduce the rate." And that "moderately easing some tightening measures" would be beneficial in boosting the labor market and exerting some downward pressure on the still elevated inflation levels. In addition, he also mentioned that his model estimated the actual neutral interest rate to be 0.75%. However, he added that although the neutral rate is important, policy is data-dependent.
