HYPE's future 24-hour TWAP net buy order reaches $11.5 million, with the largest order coming from a short-squeeze whale buying into spot lockups

2026.06.12 12:57:01

June 12, per Hyperinsight’s monitoring: HYPE’s intraday rally has driven $11.5 million in 24-hour Time-Weighted Average Price (TWAP) spot net buying volume on Hyperliquid. This uptick comes down to two key factors: alleged a16z-linked wallets have been steadily accumulating HYPE via 10 separate addresses, and a separate whale is planning to acquire 83,000 HYPE tokens — marking the single largest TWAP buy order recorded in this period. Notably, this whale had previously held an approximate $2.4 million short position on Hyperliquid. The recent HYPE rebound pushed its unrealized loss to $660,000 (a 152% drawdown), which has surpassed its initial margin. To mitigate this risk, the address intends to purchase spot HYPE while adding to its existing short position to lower its average entry cost; its total short position is expected to rise to $7.33 million. Six major Silicon Valley venture capital firms including Sequoia and a16z have formed a strategic partnership with South Korea's National Pension Service, ramping up investments in sectors such as AI.

According to South Korean media reports, six leading Silicon Valley venture capital firms—Sequoia Capital, a16z, Khosla Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, and NEA—have signed a strategic investment memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS). The two sides plan to cooperate in identifying global investment opportunities, sharing investment information, and building an international venture capital network. The South Korean government is accelerating efforts to attract overseas venture capital, paired with the launch of the 200 trillion won National Growth Fund. The market anticipates South Korea’s strategic industries including AI and semiconductors will receive multi-layered support from policy funds, overseas VC, and private capital. However, industry insiders point out that the influx of large amounts of capital into a small number of high-profile companies may inflate market valuations, raising the risk of valuation corrections during future IPO and M&A exit phases, and thus impacting the returns of investment funds.

CXMT’s funding rate on Hyperliquid hit -0.1775%, with the annualized cost for short positions exceeding 1500%

As of press time, the current funding rate for the CXMT-USDC perpetual contract on Hyperliquid stands at -0.1775%, with an annualized funding rate of roughly -1552.44%. A negative funding rate means short position holders must pay funding fees to long position holders. Simply put, if a trader holds a CXMT short position with a notional value of 10,000 USDC, they will need to pay approximately 17.75 USDC per funding settlement based on the current rate. If this rate persists long-term, the annualized funding cost will reach around 1552%, meaning a trader holding a $10,000 short position would theoretically pay over $150,000 in funding fees over one year.
