US AI insurance firm Lemonade released its Q2 earnings report after market close yesterday. The report showed revenue of approximately $294.4 million, a year-over-year rise of around 79%, slightly beating analysts’ consensus estimate of $291 million. While the results met or exceeded expectations and the company reaffirmed its path to profitability, the market reacted negatively. Analysts cited factors including prior elevated market expectations, the stock’s rich valuation, and a CFO transition plan announced at the same time as driving the sell-off. Goldman Sachs said that with interest rate futures markets currently pricing in a one-third chance of the Federal Reserve (Fed) raising rates today, whatever the central bank ultimately decides will be the biggest "surprise" in a non-rate-cut meeting since 1997. If the Fed does hike rates, it would mark the largest meeting-day surprise outside of rate cuts since the Fed began issuing statements announcing policy rate changes.

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) released a statement seeking the arrest of Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of social media platform Telegram. Durov faces criminal charges for alleged assistance in terrorist activities and has been added to the global wanted list. In the statement, the FSB claimed that Ukrainian intelligence agencies used Telegram’s channels and chat tools to plot sabotage, support terrorist activities, commit murders and carry out cyber fraud within Russia, leading to significant casualties and billions of dollars in property losses. It added that Telegram’s management failed to remove these problematic channels and chats. Pursuant to Russia’s criminal code, criminal charges have been filed against Durov, and he has been placed on the global wanted list. It remains unclear what type of warrant Russia has issued, or whether law enforcement agencies in other countries will cooperate. Durov’s name is not yet listed in Interpol’s public database.
