Pakistani Foreign Minister Participates in Egypt Quadrilateral Talks, States That the Hormuz Strait Will Not Be Tolled for 60 Days

On June 21, reports from Saudi Arabian media indicate that Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi announced during four-way talks with counterparts from Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia that Iran has committed not to block vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and will not impose any tolls or service fees on passage through the strategic waterway for the next 60 days. Pakistan also brokered the first dialogue between the U.S. and Iran in 47 years, with Qureshi crediting collective efforts with regional partners for the mediation’s success. He emphasized that a military conflict between the two nations would be devastating, inflicting severe negative economic impacts globally. Three technical teams are currently participating in the ongoing U.S.-Iran talks, where the committee is discussing core issues including nuclear programs, frozen assets, and the situation in Lebanon. Additionally, Qureshi said he has briefed the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey on the details of the memorandum of understanding reached during the process.
