Sources Say US-Iran Negotiations Still on Pause

June 22 (CCTV) — Iranian sources said Wednesday that U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland began around 3 p.m. local time on June 21. After roughly 90 minutes, the negotiations were briefly recessed for 30 minutes to let each delegation hold internal discussions. But the Iranian delegation refused to resume talks after threatening remarks from former President Donald Trump. Still, Qatar and Pakistan are actively mediating, shuttling messages between the Iranian and U.S. sides via intermediaries. Mediation efforts remain ongoing, and no final outcome has been reached. During the talks, the Iranian side strongly protested the U.S.’s violation of its commitments—especially the breach of the first clause of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The Iranian delegation also demanded the U.S. speed up fulfilling its pledges, including unfreezing Iranian assets and issuing sanctions waivers for Iran’s oil exports. On the nuclear issue, the Iranian side emphasized that the prerequisite for launching nuclear negotiations is the U.S. fulfilling its obligations under Articles 1, 4, 10, and 11 of the MOU.
