Jeff Bezos plans to sell Amazon stock worth $4.1 billion, with the e-commerce giant’s share price closing down more than 2%.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has filed documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to sell approximately 15 million Amazon shares, totaling around $4.1 billion based on Monday’s closing price. The sale is planned under a 10b5-1 prearranged trading plan adopted on November 14, 2025, and will be executed through Morgan Stanley. The shares were originally granted as founder stock in 1994. Prior to the announcement of this stake reduction plan, Amazon’s stock hit an all-time high on Monday. Driven by last week’s quarterly earnings, the company’s market capitalization surpassed $3 trillion, with strong second-quarter cloud computing performance. Markets view this as evidence that Amazon’s AI investments are translating into stronger growth momentum. Affected by Bezos’ share sale news, Amazon’s stock closed down more than 2% on Tuesday. Year-to-date, Amazon’s stock has risen roughly 20%, outperforming the S&P 500 index’s ~12% gain over the same period. Bezos has continued selling Amazon shares via prearranged trading plans in recent years, yet remains one of the company’s largest shareholders. Documents also show that in May this year, Bezos donated 220,200 Amazon shares to non-profit organizations.
