Uniswap Foundation Discloses Q1 Financial Overview: Allocates $115.1M for Grantmaking, Operating Funds Sustainable Through January 2027

2025.05.23 10:48:23

On May 23rd, the Uniswap Foundation disclosed its Q1 2025 Financial Overview. By March 31, 2025, the held assets consist of $53.4 million in cash and stablecoins, 15.8 million UNI (measured in UNI), and 257 ETH. According to the closing price on March 31, 2025, the total value of these tokens is roughly $95 million. In addition, another 5 million UNI is held externally as collateral, and the Foundation has obtained a $29 million loan against this collateral. The loan is structured through a financial instrument, enabling the Foundation to obtain immediate dollar liquidity without causing a substantial market impact. It provides downside protection for the collateral assets and retains additional upside potential. The held USD cash and stablecoins will be utilized to fund grants and daily operations. A substantial portion of the UNI reserves will serve as future operational funds while still retaining further upside potential. The anticipated operational cycle can be sustained until January 2027, with fund usage allocations as follows: For grant commitments and incentive programs, the Foundation has collectively set aside $115.1 million for grants: $99.8 million will be committed expenditures in 2025 and 2026, along with an additional $15.3 million for historical commitments that have been pledged but not yet paid. For operational expenses and employee token rewards, an estimated $33.3 million is expected to support operations until January 2027.

Trend-following funds have taken a record short position in global bonds, with the US CPI report expected to be the key determinant of their profit and loss.

According to Bloomberg, data from UBS Group shows that Commodity Trading Advisors (CTAs), which seek to profit from price movements across various asset classes, tripled their underweight positions in bonds in July from two weeks prior. Since then, these bets have remained stable. If the upcoming U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) push Treasury prices higher, the CTAs face the risk of losses. Strategist Nicolas Le Roux noted that a 1-basis-point move in the 10-year Treasury yield ahead of inflation data translates to roughly $300 million in profit or loss for CTAs, with this exposure being the largest UBS has recorded since it began compiling relevant data in 1990.
