QCP: The crypto market is expected to continue ranging in the short term, with the Bitcoin conference being particularly important

2025.05.27 17:24:36

May 27th. QCP issued its daily market observation, stating that in response to last Friday's macroeconomic developments, Bitcoin showed relatively restrained behavior even though the stock market had a significant rally. The institutional demand for spot ETFs remained stable, providing underlying support to the market. However, the front-end implied volatility remained firm, and the Bitcoin price traded sideways within a narrow range between $107,000 and $110,000. The recent continuous high volatility indicates that traders are positioning themselves in anticipation of headline risks ahead of the Bitcoin conference in Las Vegas from May 27th to 29th. Market attention has started to focus on the lineup of speakers at the conference, including JD Vance, Michael Saylor, Trump Jr., and Eric Trump. The Bitcoin conference held in Nashville last July serves as a useful reference. At that time, President Trump's keynote speech led to a one-day implied volatility surge to over 90, followed by a rapid decline, and Bitcoin dropped nearly 30% in two days. This event continues to impact market sentiment. Although the possibility of a similar significant pullback seems low, market positioning shows a defensive tendency. In the past 24 hours, the open interest in perpetual contracts has decreased, and the funding rate has returned to normal. Some high-beta retail traders, such as James Wynn, have also reduced their exposure. The demand for short-term put options remains a key focus. Against this backdrop, there are reports that Trump Media is exploring a $3 billion cryptocurrency financing. Although this has been denied, it has increased market sensitivity to headline news. In the short term, Bitcoin may continue to fluctuate within the range. Once the conference concludes and the key speeches end, with the fading of risk premium, the front-end volatility is expected to compress.

ZachXBT Discloses Investigation Details: Funded His Own Operations to Infiltrate Money Laundering Networks for Intelligence, Aided in Freezing Stolen Bybit Funds

On-chain detective ZachXBT disclosed in a social media post that he once posed as a client to infiltrate a Chinese organized crime money laundering network. The network is accused of laundering over $1 billion across multiple exploit attacks for hackers linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group. The intelligence he gathered helped facilitate the fund freeze and on-chain attribution for the $1.5 billion Bybit hack in February 2025. After the February 2025 Bybit incident, ZachXBT discovered in public Telegram and Discord groups that a large number of accounts were processing orders related to the stolen funds. He reached out to an operator using the alias "Jimmy Green" posing as a client, and gradually built trust through multiple exchanges of USDC and USDT. The operator subsequently disclosed the fund transfer plan in advance, claiming his team had laundered most of the stolen Bybit funds. ZachXBT said he chose to absorb a roughly 5% loss per order at the time in exchange for more actionable intelligence. During the investigation, he identified a Solana address cluster holding over $12 million in stolen Bybit funds, of which 442,000 USDT was subsequently frozen by Tether. He also confirmed the freeze of 332,000 USDC linked to the Poloniex hack, and traced another $3 million in fraudulent proceeds to the hot wallet of Huiwang Guarantee, which was later sanctioned. The relevant findings have been submitted to private sector investigators and law enforcement agencies. ZachXBT stated that he advanced $349,700 in this case, and bore both financial losses and personal risks. Since 2022, he has helped facilitate the freezing of over $75 million in assets linked to North Korea-related incidents. He also called on foundations and individuals to provide funding to support his continued investigation of cases others may deem unfeasible.
