OCEAN Mining Pool Vice President to Liquidate Bitcoin Holdings and Exit the Industry Due to OP_RETURN Changes

2025.06.11 09:24:16

June 11th: In the most prominent protest regarding yesterday's OP_RETURN news, a vice president of the OCEAN mining pool has committed to selling all their Bitcoin (BTC) holdings and completely withdrawing from the industry. By October, Jason Hughes will stop collaborating with Luke Dashjr and BitcoinMechanic, who are leaders of the movement opposing significant changes to Bitcoin Core. Recently, 31 senior developers signed a letter and proposed a substantial change - expanding Bitcoin Core's default memory pool to relay transactions as large as 4MB. This adjustment is anticipated to benefit DAOs, oracles, yield-generating stablecoins, and alternative token trading platforms that publish data to the Bitcoin ledger. This change is likely to spread to tens of thousands of full nodes with the next update to the Bitcoin Core software. When node operators update to Bitcoin Core version 30 in four months, they will no longer filter out OP_RETURN outputs exceeding 80 bytes when relaying pending transactions to other nodes. Jason Hughes, who had been in partnership with Luke Dashjr and BitcoinMechanic in opposing this update, wrote in an open letter, "The principles that Bitcoin once adhered to are no longer intact." He added that he has "exhausted his efforts in this battle." While he has not yet announced his next career move, he mentioned having received multiple job offers from industries outside the crypto field.

DBS: NVIDIA’s Valuation Remains Low, AI Stocks Far From Being in a Bubble

DBS Group Chief Investment Officer Hou Wey Fook said that Nvidia’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio and projected 70% earnings growth next year indicate that AI-driven tech stocks are still far from forming a bubble. Aggregate data shows Nvidia’s current 12-month forward P/E ratio stands at 17x. Hou compared this to Cisco Systems’ valuation of around 100x before the dot-com bubble burst. He told TV interviews: "If we take Nvidia as the representative company in the AI sector, which currently has a P/E ratio of only in the teens, how can we call this a bubble?" He added that semiconductor and AI investments still have "tailwinds". However, Hou recommended adopting a "barbell strategy" to "control overall portfolio volatility": allocating to tech stocks on the growth end, while pairing with investment-grade fixed-income assets to deliver stable returns, and using hedge funds and gold as intermediate risk-diversification tools.
