Andre Cronje: L2 is Ethereum's Once Again Inflation

2025.02.11 12:24:29

On February 11th, Andre Cronje, the founder of Sonic Labs, recently criticized Ethereum's L2 solution's handling of profits and its potential incompatibility with Ethereum's decentralization principles in a post on X. He stated, "I don't understand how Ethereum users manage to convince themselves. L2 is the reason why Ethereum is inflating again." The main focus of this debate is the two competing visions for Ethereum's scalability. Critics argue that L2 has generated a significant amount of revenue but has only returned a small portion to Ethereum in terms of data availability and security. Supporters of decentralized scaling, including Cronje, advocate for directly using solutions like Sonic to enhance Ethereum's base layer and reduce reliance on external L2 providers. Julio Moreno, the head of research at CryptoQuant, pointed out that Ethereum's supply has now exceeded pre-merge levels (September 2022), confirming that the network has resumed inflation. To address the inefficiency issue of Ethereum's L2 solution, Cronje proposed using Sonic's technology to bypass the limitations of the centralized model. In previous news, members of the Sonic Labs team publicly questioned the flow of revenue to the Base sequencer, suggesting that the Base team was dumping ETH. The Base team members responded with a rebuttal.

Peak Forecast for Major Cryptocurrencies in This Bull Market: Bitcoin Could Rally to $190,000, Ethereum to $8,800

Crypto analyst alicharts, using long-term K-line charts of major crypto assets, predicts the tops of leading cryptocurrencies in this bull run from a technical analysis perspective as follows: Bitcoin’s first target is its previous high of $125,000; if it breaks through this level, it may test the upper boundary of its ascending channel, near $190,000. Ethereum’s monthly chart shows it has followed an ascending channel over the past five years, with the channel’s upper rail near $5,000 as a key level to watch. A break above this level is expected to push ETH toward $8,800. Solana’s monthly chart appears to be forming a cup-and-handle pattern, with its neckline around $295. A monthly close above this neckline would strengthen the bullish case, and the pattern’s projected potential target is near $2,744.
