TIP-6780 Latest Update: TRON Developer Community Releases SELFDESTRUCT Instruction Revision Explanation

2025.11.19 14:32:26

November 19th. Lately, the TRON developers community has released the most recent explanation of "TIP-6780: Change to the SELFDESTRUCT Opcode" on Medium and has discussed the impact of this instruction change during a recent developer meeting. According to the plan, this change will be integrated into the upcoming java-tron v4.8.1 version. However, it will not take effect immediately upon release. Instead, the official activation time will be determined through on-chain governance voting after the completion of the network-wide upgrade. According to the explanation, the core adjustment of TIP-6780 is to limit the usage scenario of SELFDESTRUCT, enabling it to truly delete account data (such as code, storage, and the account itself) only when called in the same transaction that created the contract. At the same time, the barrier to usage will be increased by adjusting the fixed energy cost from 0 to 5000 to reduce abuse risks. This change will make TRON's behavior consistent with Ethereum's EIP-6780, further enhancing EVM compatibility. In addition, the developers community has conducted a statistical analysis of contracts on the current TRON network that include the SELFDESTRUCT opcode, indicating that such contracts account for a very small percentage and hold fewer assets. Most internal transactions related to SELFDESTRUCT since 2025 have followed a "create-to-destroy" usage pattern, and these transactions will continue to function normally after the upgrade. Therefore, the expected impact on existing contracts and user assets is limited.

South Korea plans to inject up to 1 trillion won into its sovereign wealth fund for strategic industries including AI next year.

Gyeong-seol Min, head of the Innovation Growth Division at South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated that South Korea plans to allocate between 600 billion won (approximately $424 million) and 1 trillion won (around $707 million) in new funds next year to a new sovereign wealth fund targeting strategic industries such as AI. The final investment amount could exceed initial expectations, depending on the specific targets selected and their funding requirements. Min added that there are currently no plans for the fund to make direct investments in Samsung Electronics or SK Hynix. In July this year, the South Korean government announced it would establish a new "Strategic Industry Investment Account" under the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), with initial funding of at least 20 trillion won (approximately 94 billion yuan). The fund’s investment scope includes AI, semiconductors, data centers, core overseas supply chain enterprises, and other related sectors. The government plans to officially launch and operate the "Korea-style sovereign wealth fund" next year, which will also target infrastructure such as robotics, energy, batteries, and power grids. Nuclear energy, space, and quantum technologies are also under consideration for inclusion.
