On February 20th, based on the 13F filing data submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by institutions, pension funds, hedge funds, and other large institutions, the amount held in Bitcoin spot ETFs in the fourth quarter of 2024 was twice as much. As of the fourth quarter of 2024, institutional investors held $38.7 billion worth of Bitcoin spot ETFs. This figure is more than three times the amount held in the third quarter, which was only $12.4 billion. Among them, the Wisconsin Investment Board increased its holdings of the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) to just over 6 million shares. Billionaire hedge fund investor Paul Tudor also doubled his stake in IBIT from 4,428,230 shares to 8,048,552 shares, nearly doubling his holdings. Bloomberg Intelligence senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas stated that IBIT currently has 1,100 institutional holders who have declared their holdings through the 13F filings. Most newly launched ETFs usually have fewer than 10 institutional holders.
