Bitcoin mining firm Core Scientific is set to invest $400 million to expand its Alabama data center.

2025.02.20 11:16:27

On February 20th, as reported by The Miner Mag, the Bitcoin mining firm Core Scientific has extended its high-performance computing (HPC) hosting business to Opelika, Alabama. This was achieved by leasing AUBix's existing facility. The company intends to make an initial capital outlay of approximately $135 million in this 40,000-square-foot facility, with the total investment projected to exceed $400 million. Opelika Mayor Ron Anders mentioned that Core Scientific's $400 million investment is anticipated to generate $1.5 million in annual tax revenue for the local area. The lease duration is 10 years, and the company has the option to extend it in increments of 5 years, up to a maximum of 15 years. It is worth noting that Core Scientific resumed its full "hodl" strategy in January of this year, keeping all monthly Bitcoin outputs and increasing its Bitcoin holdings to over 500 coins.
