Lido releases KelpDAO Incident Update: All user losses covered by Lido Earn mechanism

May 7 – Lido Finance has issued an update on the KelpDAO attack. On April 29, Lido DAO voted to donate 2,500 stETH in a one-time contribution to the DeFi United relief fund for the rsETH incident; the stETH was officially transferred last week. On May 6, Aave settled the attacker’s rsETH position on Ethereum and Arbitrum per the established recovery plan. Post-settlement collateral has been handed over to the Recovery Guardian for safekeeping, with no impact on other users. Also on May 7, Lido’s Snapshot vote reached the required majority, formally approving full coverage under the EarnETH first-loss protection mechanism for loss rates below 1%. All losses incurred by EarnETH users will be fully covered by the Lido Earn mechanism. EarnETH treasury operations are expected to resume immediately after the Kelp protocol unpauses, with a brief waiting period for user funds to unfreeze. During this period, both the EarnETH and EarnUSD treasuries will continue generating yield. Lido thanks the community for its patient support and will provide further progress updates.

Wood emphasized Binance did not trigger the flash crash. Instead, the sharp price drop caused a system malfunction, and tariff fears compounded the market’s fragility. CZ thanked her for the clarification, noting the earlier statement was widely cited by media—with many alleging Binance caused the crash. “I’m glad you’ve clarified this now,” he said.

On May 7 Ethereum address holding the second-largest amount of meme token sato “bought the top,” per on-chain analyst Ai Auntie (@ai_9684xtpa). Over the past 11 hours, the address purchased sato at an average price of $1.4304, spending a total of $480,000. The buy order coincided with sato’s price peak, making it the top buyer of the token in the past 24 hours. It now holds an unrealized loss of $276,000. 23 hours earlier, the address withdrew 1.23 million USDC from Hyperliquid, with 750,000 USDC still unused in its wallet. BlockBeats notes that meme coins often lack real-world use cases, see extreme price volatility, and investors should exercise caution when considering them.
