Paid Early Access to Trump-Related News Sparks Resistance From Trading Institutions

According to people familiar with the matter, the Truth API data service launched by Trump’s media company is facing resistance from some trading firms. While several trading institutions have signed contracts to use the service, firms including Hudson River Trading and Citadel Securities have stated they are unwilling to pay for it, arguing it is not a necessary requirement for trading operations. The sources requested anonymity due to the non-public nature of the information involved. Analysts note that existing insider trading regulations do not explicitly cover scenarios where a sitting president uses their media platform to publish market-moving information, or sells faster access to such information to the market. Karen Woody, a professor at Washington and Lee University School of Law, said the past regulatory framework did not anticipate that a sitting president might take such actions. Paul Atkins, chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), previously stated in an interview that the SEC is monitoring developments related to the Truth API data stream.

Meanwhile, following the Supreme Court’s ruling invalidating most of former President Trump’s additional tariff measures, ongoing tariff refunds have also weighed on fiscal revenues, further amplifying deficit pressures.

White House plans to expand AI regulation, open-source models may be included in the testing framework.

According to US tech media outlet WIRED citing insiders, the Trump administration’s new artificial intelligence (AI) guidelines will be revised to expand oversight of AI models. The White House announced this month it has developed an AI framework requiring US labs developing cutting-edge AI models to undergo federal security testing prior to public release. The framework has not been made public, and there are no reported plans to release it. Currently, the framework only covers so-called closed-source models developed by firms including Anthropic and OpenAI. However, a White House official revealed that the framework is expected to also include open-source models in the coming months. In short, once open-source models reach the same "cutting-edge" capability level as Anthropic’s Mythos-class models and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6, they will be incorporated into the framework and subject to pre-release testing.
