DBS: Bank of Japan may accelerate its interest rate hikes to once every 3-4 months.

DBS Group Research’s three analysts stated in a commentary that the Bank of Japan (BOJ) may accelerate its interest rate hike pace from the current once every six months to once every 3 to 4 months. The analysts noted: “We have brought forward our expectation for the BOJ’s next rate hike to September, and project two additional hikes in Q1 and Q2 of 2027 respectively, pushing the overnight call rate to 1.75% by mid-2027.” They also pointed out that the BOJ’s recent remarks have turned more hawkish, and the Japanese government appears less opposed to an early rate hike.
