According to Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase stated that SK Hynix may allocate at least $130 billion in additional shareholder returns by 2027. The company announced it would repurchase and cancel up to 24 million shares, a move marking the largest share cancellation plan in the history of South Korean listed firms. SK Hynix’s gain also lifted the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI), with rival Samsung Electronics’ stock climbing as much as 10%. Market participants believe higher shareholder return expectations could drive a rebound in South Korean memory chip stocks. The memory sector has recently pulled back due to concerns over the sustainability of AI-related investments and competitive pressure from China. Currently, SK Hynix’s stock remains more than 40% below its all-time high set in June.
