Anthropic hires Google chip business executive to accelerate in-house chip development.

AI lab Anthropic has hired Amir Salek, one of the founders of Google’s custom chip project under Alphabet (GOOG.O), as part of its hardware push as it lays groundwork to enter the in-house semiconductor space. Salek’s hire is part of the company’s hardware strategy. Anthropic announced Friday that Salek will join its computing team. Salek previously led Google’s Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) business, departing in 2022, and oversaw delivery of the first seven generations of TPU chips. Currently, Anthropic sources chips from multiple vendors including Nvidia (NVDA.O), Google, and Amazon (AMZN.O). However, the company has recently signaled its intent to build an in-house chip business. The San Francisco-based AI firm has already begun recruiting for this initiative and posted related job openings.

ZEC has surged 20-fold in a year, with a string of positive news catalysts spurring the market for the so-called "strongest" privacy coin.

According to HTX market data, ZEC briefly surged past $833 this morning, hitting a new all-time high. It has rallied 67% in the past seven days, 230% in 180 days, and 1970% over the past year. Recent key catalysts include: - Grayscale filed its Fourth S-3 amendment to advance the conversion of Zcash Trust into a spot ETF (proposed ticker: ZCSH), and disclosed that a DCG subsidiary is in non-binding discussions to inject approximately 200,000 ZEC (valued at around $110 million at the time). - Cypherpunk Technologies, backed by the Winklevoss twins, launched the world’s largest ZEC mining machine cluster, controlling roughly 18% of the network’s total hash rate while continuing to increase its holdings of ZEC treasury. - Ironwood’s network upgrade (NU6.3) has gone live, fixing a previous vulnerability in the Orchard privacy pool, enhancing the security and verifiability of the shielded pool, and facilitating fund migration and restoring ecosystem confidence. Against the backdrop of rising privacy narratives and market short squeezes, ZEC has emerged as one of the top-performing privacy coins in this cycle, with its price still in a high-volatility range.

Regulated Major Exchanges Ditching Self-Built Chains? Kraken Reportedly Testing Hyperliquid’s Permissioned HIP-3, Community Debates Practical Pathways for Crypto Infrastructure

Hyperliquid’s testnet has recently added compliance operation control features including whitelisting, forced liquidation, and collateral transfer. A node named "Kraken HIP-3 test DEX" has activated these permissioned features, whitelisted 10 wallets, and registered the "Kraken Exchange Validator". While the testnet supports permissionless deployment and full attribution cannot be confirmed, combined with Kraken parent company Payward’s licensing arrangements for xStocks and U.S. derivatives, the community widely interprets this as likely the first major compliant CEX to seriously adapt to Hyperliquid’s permissioned HIP-3 framework. What has sparked even more discussion is the contrast here: Kraken itself has incubated its own Ethereum Layer 2 "Ink", yet it chose to test compliance modules on Hyperliquid, a high-performance perpetual infrastructure long viewed as "not fully compliant". Analysts believe this is not a simple "abandonment of its own chain", but a pragmatic choice: the HIP-3+Star optional modules allow CEXs to quickly access verified order book and margin systems while retaining control over KYC and account-level risk control. Hyperliquid is being repositioned as a neutral underlying trading infrastructure, where permissioned and permissionless layers coexist in isolation. Whoever integrates the compliance modules will gain access to institutional liquidity in the next phase. This remains in the testing stage, with neither side having made an official announcement.
