FT: Wesh and Bessent are facing immense pressure on policy communication, with the market focusing on the Jackson Hole speech.

According to the Financial Times, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh will attend and speak at the Kansas City Fed’s annual Jackson Hole symposium this Friday for the first time in his role as Fed Chair. Markets are closely watching how he will reassure investors and elaborate on the Fed’s new policy communication framework. Recent U.S. economic stress signals have mounted, with U.S. public debt crossing $40 trillion this week and long-term U.S. Treasury yields hitting 19-year highs. Meanwhile, Trump announced that reciprocal tariffs on Canada will take effect in weeks, and the U.S. has threatened an "economic D-Day" against Iran—both developments could further exacerbate downward pressure on the U.S. economy. Against this backdrop, Warsh and U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent are facing growing pressure on policy communication. Some investors argue that Bessent’s surprise announcement this week to expand the U.S. Treasury’s repurchase program has undermined the credibility of the Treasury’s policy guidance. Meanwhile, since taking office, Warsh has significantly reduced policy communication between the Fed and investors, slashing policymakers’ guidance on future interest rate paths. As a result, markets are paying close attention to his Jackson Hole speech, where Warsh is expected to explain his streamlined communication approach and the policy framework behind it. Market participants believe Warsh’s speech will not only influence investors’ judgments on the Fed’s future interest rate policy, but also serve as a key window to stabilize market expectations amid the current backdrop of slowing U.S. economic growth and rising fiscal pressure.

Maji netted nearly $11 million in profits from rolling long positions last week, with his current holdings valued at $129 million.

According to monitoring by EmberCN, crypto entrepreneur Huang Licheng, known as "Big Brother Ma Ji", capitalized on last week's one-sided rally in the crypto market, rolling over his long positions from around $150,000 to roughly $11.15 million, recouping approximately $11 million in total. Previously, he had suffered a total loss of around $35 million from long ETH positions over the past 10 months; after this round of gains, his historical loss has narrowed to roughly $24 million. On-chain data had also previously shown his total historical losses remained in the tens of millions of dollars. Currently, Huang holds long positions worth around $129 million, covering ETH, BTC, HYPE, and PUMP, with an overall leverage ratio of approximately 12x. If the market continues its one-sided rally going forward, his previous $35 million loss could narrow further quickly; however, if the market shifts to consolidation or a downtrend, his high-leverage rollover strategy could quickly erase the roughly $11 million in gains from this round.

Arthur Hayes repurchased around 1.9 million ETHFI at an average price of $0.62.

According to Arkham’s monitoring, Arthur Hayes has repurchased approximately 1.9 million ETHFI tokens, worth around $1.17 million, at an average price of roughly $0.62 per token. Four months ago, he sold 265,461 ETHFI tokens for about $0.44 each, netting roughly $118,000 in proceeds. The current repurchase price is roughly 41% higher than his prior selling price, signaling that Hayes—who exited at a loss earlier—has re-entered a position in ETHFI at a higher cost. ETHFI has now launched perpetual contracts on Hyperliquid, with related positions attracting notable market attention. That said, the $1.17 million position remains relatively modest compared to large whale funds, and this single purchase is insufficient to confirm his overall subsequent strategy.

Any further sale of the additional 3.837 million TRUMP previously transferred to OKX could pose potential pressure on the token’s price and market sentiment.

Institutions: With the probability of Japan hiking interest rates in September rising sharply, the market is closely monitoring officials’ remarks.

Bank of Japan (BOJ) officials will soon have multiple opportunities to either confirm or push back against the market’s increasingly aggressive bets on a September interest rate hike. Market pricing currently puts the probability of the central bank hiking rates in September at around 82%. Since the BOJ’s July 2024 rate hike decision drew fierce criticism, the Bank of Japan Governor has been emphasizing the need to strengthen communication with the market. The yen is another key factor prompting the BOJ to clarify its policy intentions. Daiwa Securities senior economist Kento Minami said: “The BOJ may not explicitly announce that its next rate hike will take place in September. Instead, officials may hint at the necessity of an early rate hike by highlighting upside inflation risks, which the market will view as confirmation of a September hike. However, if the BOJ repeatedly stresses uncertainty, the need for further data monitoring, or the need to assess the impact of its previous rate increases, the market may interpret this as a signal that interest rates will stay unchanged in September.” (Jin10)
