Hut 8’s Texas data center was revealed to be included in Anthropic’s $35 billion AI computing power contract.

AI firm Anthropic has reached a $35 billion computing power procurement agreement with Lambda, an AI cloud service provider backed by NVIDIA. Part of the computing power will be supplied by Bitcoin miner Hut 8’s Beacon Point campus in Nueces County, Texas. Hut 8 previously disclosed that the campus had signed two 15-year long-term leases covering 704MW of IT capacity, with a total contract value of $19.6 billion over the term, but had not revealed the tenant’s identity before. The 525-acre campus has a maximum power access capacity of 1GW and ready grid connections. Per the disclosed deal structure, NVIDIA holds the lease for the facility, Lambda will deploy NVIDIA chips, and Anthropic will purchase the resulting computing power. Hut 8 has not yet confirmed how much of the 704MW capacity is tied to Lambda and Anthropic, nor whether NVIDIA is the previously undisclosed tenant. As AI data centers’ demand for power and computing power surges, Bitcoin miners with existing power and grid access are accelerating their shift to AI infrastructure. Miners including Hut 8, TeraWulf, IREN, and Bitdeer have all entered the AI data center market by selling or leasing computing power and power infrastructure. Hut 8’s second-quarter revenue this year stood at $74.93 million, up 81% year-over-year; its two Beacon Point leases total $19.6 billion, and the campus is expected to generate approximately $1.31 billion in annual operating profit once fully operational.

Jensen Huang: AI will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, with demand for skilled technicians set to surge.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently stated that the AI revolution will not only eliminate jobs but also create "hundreds of thousands" of new employment opportunities, especially for skilled tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and technicians. He pointed out that as chip factories, packaging facilities, data centers, and "AI factories" continue construction, U.S. demand for skilled workers who can "build things with their own hands" will grow significantly. Huang noted that technological revolutions often reshape employment structures: "Some jobs will be eliminated, but many new jobs will also emerge." He added that white-collar roles will not disappear in the short term, and AI infrastructure construction will drive a boom in the skilled trades sector. According to reports, the U.S. could face a shortage of around 2.1 million unfilled skilled trade positions by 2030, including roughly 130,000 new electrician roles. Meanwhile, data center construction is rapidly expanding employment demand; QTS projects its on-site workforce will rise from approximately 10,000 in 2025 to 40,000 by the end of 2026. Huang previously referred to AI infrastructure construction as one of "the largest infrastructure builds in human history." As data centers, power, and cooling facilities continue to expand, the shortage of skilled workers may become a key bottleneck for the further expansion of the AI industry.

"Currency devaluation trades" are heating up again, as gold stocks post their best August performance in decades.

Over the past month, gold mining stocks have rallied nearly vertically, drawing back investors who had previously faced frequent market volatility due to mixed signals from Washington policymakers. Geopolitical turmoil and fiscal uncertainty drove gold mining stocks to their best August performance since at least 1994, with gains more than triple those of spot gold. Despite sharp market swings at the end of August following Federal Reserve Chair Waller’s pledge to curb inflation, the NYSE Arca Gold Miners Index still rose 33%, staging a strong rebound after falling 39% from its March record high. The VanEck Gold Miners ETF (GDX) recorded its highest monthly inflows since February. By contrast, spot gold prices themselves rose just 10% in August. The U.S. Treasury’s efforts to lower long-term borrowing costs have driven investors back to gold and related assets. Thanks to their relatively fixed costs, mining firms can amplify gains from rising gold prices, positioning them as a leveraged instrument for betting on further precious metal rallies.

Japan's 10-year government bond yield has broken through 3%, and the largest overseas buyers of Japanese bonds may reduce their allocations.

Japan’s 10-year government bond (JGB) yield has breached 3% for the first time since 1996, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield briefly climbed to 4.79% and Germany’s 10-year Bund yield hit its highest level since 2011. Global bond markets have witnessed synchronized sell-offs, driven primarily by inflation, interest rate hike expectations, and fiscal financing pressures. Market participants are closely monitoring how shifts in Japan’s bond market will impact global capital flows. As domestic Japanese bond yields rise, domestic assets have grown more attractive to Japanese investors, potentially leading to reduced new allocations to overseas bonds in regions including the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Analysts note that even without large-scale capital repatriation, Japan’s exit as a marginal buyer of overseas bonds could lift global bond term premiums and long-term yields. Meanwhile, escalating Middle East tensions have pushed up oil prices, the U.S. national debt has surpassed $40 trillion, Japan has expanded its fiscal spending plans, and tech giants are issuing long-term bonds to fund AI infrastructure—all of which have further increased global bond supply and capital demand. The market is shifting its focus from concerns over economic growth alone to greater attention on inflation and bond supply pressures.

“Bonk Guy” Reflects on Meme Coin Trading Success: Earned Over $20 Million Trading BONK With 6x Leverage From an Initial $16,000 Stake

Prominent Solana ecosystem trader "Bonk Guy" Unipcs has published a post reflecting on his meme coin trading history. In 2023, he traded BONK with a $16,000 principal and 6x leverage, growing his capital to over $20 million after betting on the token’s low point. He later turned $6,000 into $1.4 million via WIF, grew a low six-figure sum to over $8 million with Fartcoin, and generated millions in profits from trades on tokens including POPCAT and PNUT. Unipcs noted all these trades were publicly conducted and documented, though he later gave back all accumulated profits by October 10, adding this was not his only major trading win. During the previous market cycle, he also grew funds ranging from low five-figure to six-figure amounts to $5 million to over $10 million via meme-related trades on tokens like DOGEGOV, MAGA, and Roaring Kitty. Unipcs also stated his bullishness on USELESS is currently even stronger than when he traded BONK in 2023, pointing out that USELESS previously rose from a roughly $4 million market cap to $450 million outside of a bull market, and could see far larger gains if it experiences a full bull run for the first time.
