Vitalik updates the EIP-8141 proposal to support quantum-resistant signatures and wallet social recovery.

Vitalik has recently updated the EIP-8141 "Frame Transaction" proposal, whose core improvements include atomic batch execution of up to 64 operations, social recovery (Google account-style recovery that eliminates the need for mnemonics), P256 quantum-resistant signatures, and the ability for anyone to pay gas fees on behalf of users—all of which significantly boost Ethereum wallet usability. The revised proposal was co-authored by 10 experts including Vitalik and lightclient, and is scheduled to be integrated into the 2027 Hegotá Upgrade, marking a major native implementation of Ethereum account abstraction.

GPT-6 Astra Finally Reduces Quota Deductions: Up to 75% Less Deduction in High-Usage Scenarios

Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI has optimized ChatGPT subscription usage for GPT-6 Astra. Core product lead Tibo stated that model quality remains unchanged, with subscription quota consumption in some heavy-use scenarios dropping to roughly 1/3 to 1/4 of prior levels. The optimization is explicitly targeted at ChatGPT subscription quotas. OpenAI has not disclosed the specific mechanism, though its wording indicates it is an adjustment to subscription-side usage calculations. Over the past two days, multiple reports of excessive Astra quota consumption have emerged on OpenAI’s GitHub. Some Plus users said they hit usage limits in around 20 minutes, while Pro 20x users reported depleting most of their weekly quota in a single day.

The Bankless founder liquidated their entire ETH holdings and shifted into ZEC and LIT tokens, which have both significantly outperformed ETH.

DeFi researcher Ignas posted on X: "After Bankless founder David Hoffman sold his ETH, he reallocated his portfolio to several top-performing tokens, including LIT and ZEC. NEAR also performed well, while only VVV underperformed the broader market. Though the market was rife with FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) at the time, and it was near ETH’s bottom, active crypto investors’ goal is always to outperform BTC and ETH. Well done, David." Earlier, Bankless co-founder David Hoffman announced in June that he had liquidated all his ETH holdings and purchased VVV, NEAR, ZEC, HYPE, and LIT.

OpenAI's Chief Scientist Warns: Critical Chain-of-Thought (CoT) Monitoring Is Failing

Beating AI News: OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki has warned that a core method the company uses to check AI alignment is growing increasingly unreliable. This method, called Chain-of-Thought (CoT) monitoring, works by observing a model’s written reasoning process to spot hidden goals or dangerous thoughts. OpenAI has long heavily relied on CoT monitoring as a key strategy. One major reason it did not release the full Chain-of-Thought for its o1-preview model was to avoid directly training or constraining CoT, which would teach models to hide their true intentions. This approach remains critical for GPT-6 Astra. However, internal evaluations at OpenAI show CoT monitoring is becoming less reliable: models are now better at controlling their reasoning processes and can keep growing more capable even without writing out their reasoning. Pachocki worries that as model capabilities expand, humans may find it increasingly hard to grasp how these models make decisions. He also pointed out that no AI lab has yet solved alignment and monitoring to a level sufficient for full-speed long-term model scaling. Before establishing shared safety thresholds, he urged AI labs to voluntarily slow down progress, and OpenAI may pause further model scaling if necessary.
