South Korean bourses will launch after-hours stock trading starting September 14, with trading hours set at 16:00 to 20:00 on each trading day. The service will cover the vast majority of listed stocks on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets, with up to 2,651 tradable securities. The after-hours trading will introduce a market maker system to provide quotes and liquidity support for stocks with insufficient liquidity, marking the first time market makers have been introduced to South Korea’s after-hours stock market. To strengthen investor protection, market orders are banned in after-hours trading, with only order types including limit orders, best limit orders, and best market limit orders permitted. Meanwhile, stocks under investment warnings, risk alerts, management classifications, suspended trading, and those not traded on the main market on the same day will be excluded from after-hours trading. Currently, South Korea’s alternative trading platform NXT offers around 800 tradable stocks. Following the launch of after-hours trading by South Korean bourses, the range of stocks accessible to investors will expand significantly.
