Beating AI Express: Anthropic has built its own biology lab in the San Francisco Bay Area, moving its AI model Claude from digital research to real-world experiments. Eric Kauderer-Abrams, head of life sciences at Anthropic, confirmed the company now runs its own experiments while also outsourcing some work to external partners. The next step is integrating Claude directly into lab automation: Anthropic aims to have Claude control robotic arms, pipetting robots and other equipment, performing experiments independently under human supervision. Last month, the company launched the Model Hardware Standard, which allows AI to control microscopes, robotic arms and lab instruments via a unified interface. The system can already adjust parameters based on experimental results and even handle some equipment malfunctions. Now, with the addition of a real lab, Claude’s scientific research capabilities are advancing from “data analysis” to “hands-on experimentation.”

With the official launch of Circle’s Arc mainnet, Kite announced it is collaborating with Circle to explore agent-to-agent service transactions built on Arc, covering service discovery, quoting, transaction agreement, delivery acceptance, and USDC payment settlement. According to the introduction, Kite is building a transaction process for buyers and sellers via its Kite Seller Console and Kite Agent Passport, enabling sellers to set service prices, delivery timelines, and acceptance criteria, while buyers can authorize payments within a preset spending cap, with an escrow mechanism linking delivery and settlement. In this setup, Kite handles service agreements and delivery workflows, while Arc provides the payment settlement network. Beating AI Express: Anthropic has leveraged Claude to optimize the performance of 36 open-source biological models. In under four weeks, these models achieved an average speedup of around 4x, covering tasks including protein structure prediction, protein design, and genomic analysis. All related optimization code has been open-sourced. Claude did more than just modify Python code; it also wrote custom GPU kernels like FlashPairformer, directly boosting GPU computing efficiency at the low level. In official tests, some previously time-consuming calculations sped up by up to 3.2x. For different models, Claude individually identified bottlenecks, eliminating redundant computations or pre-caching frequently used data. The entire process was overseen by two Anthropic biological modeling researchers, neither of whom had prior experience in inference optimization or kernel engineering. Even when requiring identical results before and after optimization, the models still delivered an average speedup of roughly 1.6x; when allowing minor, normal-range differences in model outputs, the average speedup reached about 4x. Previously, a single protein design experiment at Anthropic required up to ~2,500 H100 GPU hours per target. After optimization, one H200 can achieve comparable results in 24 hours, with total costs of around $150 for the GPU plus Claude. Experiments that once needed thousands of GPU hours can now be completed in roughly one day.
