IMF Includes Bitcoin and Other Digital Assets in Global Economic Data Standard for First Time

2025.03.23 09:40:18

On March 23rd, according to CrowFund Insider. On March 20th, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued the seventh edition of the "Balance of Payments Manual" (BPM7). For the first time, it included digital assets such as cryptocurrencies in the global economic reporting framework, marking the first update to the manual since 2009. Under the new framework, digital assets were divided into fungible tokens and non-fungible tokens and further classified based on whether they carried related liabilities. Non-endorsed assets like Bitcoin were classified as non-produced non-financial assets and attributed to the capital account. Digital currencies supported by liabilities like stablecoins were considered financial instruments. Platform tokens like ETH and SOL, if held across borders, might be classified as quasi-equity instruments. Staking and cryptocurrency yield activities were regarded as sources of dividend income. Mining and staking-related services were recognized as exportable computer services. The IMF planned to promote the widespread adoption of BPM7 and the latest System of National Accounts by 2029-2030.

Monitoring CZ’s Wallet, Trader Snipes MARSCOIN, Earning $282,000 in Hours

According to Lookonchain monitoring, a trader executed a high-profit MARSCOIN transaction within hours by tracking CZ’s public wallet. On-chain data shows that at the exact same time CZ’s wallet burned 4,444 MARSCOIN, the trader quickly deployed 16 BNB (valued at approximately $9,645) to purchase 84.61 million MARSCOIN. To outpace other traders, the trader raised the gas price to hundreds or even thousands of times the normal level, paying a $9.93 transaction fee. After the purchase, the trader adopted the strategy of “withdraw principal after doubling”: selling about 42.3 million MARSCOIN for 16.4 BNB to recover the initial investment, leaving the remaining position essentially a “zero-cost” holding. The trader did not liquidate immediately afterward, instead selling the remaining 42.3 million MARSCOIN in batches to avoid exiting too early if the token price continued to rise. Ultimately, the trader sold the remaining tokens for a total of 465 BNB, equivalent to approximately $282,000 at the time.

Meme token Basecat on Base Chain surged over 18-fold in 24 hours, with its market capitalization once topping $20 million.

According to GMGN market data, Base chain-based meme token Basecat broke through a $20 million market cap early this morning, hitting an all-time high. Its current market cap stands at $13.6 million, with a 24-hour trading volume of $27.7 million and a 24-hour price increase of over 18 times. Recently, the official account of Base App has been frequently posting cat-related content with a highly meme-oriented style. The community attributes this shift to the change in direction after Base App was taken over by personnel associated with Cobie, so users quickly deployed Basecat on the Base chain to capitalize on the "official cat narrative". It should be noted that this token is not issued by the official team and has no official endorsement; it is a community-launched token only. BlockBeats reminds users that meme coins usually have no practical use cases, experience significant price volatility, and require caution when investing.
