As rivals like SpaceX and Meta launch personal AI agents capable of handling multi-step tasks, OpenAI is facing pressure to catch up. People familiar with the matter revealed that OpenAI is developing new features to compete more directly with SpaceX’s recently launched Grok Bot. The offering is designed to help users build an always-on AI "assistant team" that can handle daily tasks, manage software, and collaborate in the background. Another source said OpenAI is also discussing developing a personal AI assistant to counter a similar product Meta rolled out recently. In building these products, OpenAI may repackage and rebrand its existing "agent" technology—including related features already used in Codex and ChatGPT. Currently, some OpenAI app users have connected their tools to email, calendars, and other applications, enabling tasks like automatic meeting scheduling and email-based business communications; some of these tasks can even take days to complete.
