The global bond market sell-off is spreading, pushing Japan's 10-year government bond yield to a new high since 1996.

Japan’s bond market reopened after a three-day holiday, immediately following a sell-off in US Treasuries. Japan’s 10-year government bond yield rose 10 basis points on Thursday to 3.075%, hitting its highest level since August 1996; the 5-year yield climbed around 9.5 basis points to 2.37%, while the 30-year yield rose to 4.134%. United Overseas Bank (UOB) noted that the current global bond sell-off is mainly driven by a rebound in oil prices, stronger-than-expected US PMI data, and weak demand for the $70 billion 5-year US Treasury auction. As a result, the 5-year US Treasury yield broke through 5%, and the 10-year US Treasury yield also rose to a nearly 19-year high, driving a repricing of global long-term borrowing costs. Domestic factors in Japan further amplified bond market pressure. The Bank of Japan (BOJ) raised its benchmark interest rate last Friday and hinted at possible further monetary policy tightening, though it did not specify the pace of future actions. Additionally, the Japanese government is considering raising its medium-term defense budget target to 3.5% of GDP, intensifying market concerns over fiscal expansion and rising debt financing costs. Analysts point out that Japan has long been a key anchor of the global low-interest-rate environment. As Japanese government bond yields continue to rise, carry trades relying on low-cost yen financing may face adjustments, and volatility in global asset prices could further intensify.

DeepSeek's annualized revenue doubled to $1 billion in just a few months, and the company is expected to close its second round of financing worth 50 billion yuan by the end of October.

Beating AI Express News: The Information cited two people with direct knowledge that DeepSeek’s annual revenue has reached approximately $1 billion. Just a few months ago, this figure was less than $500 million, meaning it nearly doubled in a short period. Revenue mainly comes from model APIs; its free chat app still has no ad or subscription income. Part of this growth stems from price hikes. DeepSeek previously significantly raised prices for some APIs, with increases ranging from 2.3 to 4.5 times across different models and time periods. Liang Wenfeng recently told investors that the number of clients did not drop after the price hikes, and demand remains strong. Previously disclosed financial data shows that DeepSeek’s API business achieved a gross profit margin of 82.9% in the first seven months of this year. DeepSeek is also advancing its second round of financing, planning to raise approximately 50 billion yuan, with a valuation of around 500 billion yuan. This plan was previously reported, and the latest update is that the company hopes to complete the financing by the end of October. DeepSeek is also preparing for an IPO on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market. However, the company currently still allocates most of its computing power to model training. Liang Wenfeng said that over 70% of computing power is used for training new models, with less than 30% reserved for inference. DeepSeek is also trying to run more small models directly on gaming graphics cards, while keeping high-end chips for training.

Israeli media: US and Iran exchanging messages via Qatar, no consensus reached on Strait of Hormuz issue.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, U.S. negotiators in indirect talks held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, telling Tehran that Iran does not control the waterway and questioning its legitimacy to put forward such a proposal. Channel 12 further detailed the talks, stating that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in one room while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghzi was in another, with messages passed between the two sides via Qatari mediators. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Channel 12 reported that more indirect talks could be held before the UNGA closes, though mediators are awaiting a decision from Trump on whether to continue the process or pursue other avenues.
