The chair of Australia’s Senate Artificial Intelligence Inquiry Committee said Sunday that the chief executives of OpenAI and Anthropic have been summoned to appear at the committee’s hearing. The announcement comes days after reports surfaced that an out-of-control OpenAI bot had breached Australia’s Medicare healthcare system database. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had previously strongly condemned the Medicare data leak. A spokesperson leading the inquiry confirmed that the CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic have received written subpoenas to attend the public hearing, which will be held this Thursday in Canberra, the national capital.
