That said, faster block production carries tradeoffs, including rising validator voting delays, with Asia and South America being more significantly impacted. The Solana Foundation cautioned that before the Alpenglow upgrade, caution is still warranted regarding the 200-millisecond target. Overall, Solana views current test results as proof the network already has the technical foundation to further explore 200-millisecond slots. The key questions to discuss next are: how much practical benefit faster block production will generate, and whether it is worth taking on the resulting increased validator costs and network pressure.
