Codex Cloud has been upgraded, allowing local tasks to be directly handed over to the cloud for continued execution.

Beating AI Express Insights: OpenAI rolled out a major update to its Codex tool at DevDay. Codex Cloud now enables projects to save a reusable cloud-based development environment, with code repositories, dependencies, tools, and permission configurations set up once for repeated use. Developers can either launch tasks directly in the cloud, or hand off work in progress from their local Codex instance to Cloud to continue running. The cloud will use the project workspace to proceed with code edits and test runs; once a task is initiated, it no longer relies on the local device. Even if the computer is put to sleep, users can later access results from their desktop, web, or mobile device, and sync changes back to their local machine. Codex CLI has added voice control and a new /agents page, allowing users to assign work to multiple agents simultaneously. The desktop version now includes Code Review, supporting GitHub Pull Requests and GitLab Merge Requests, and can offload initial code reviews to the cloud. Codex Security Cloud has also enhanced its automated security checks, which continuously monitor new code commits or scan entire GitHub repositories on a scheduled basis to investigate vulnerabilities, deduplicate issues, and prepare remediation plans. Daybreak Blue is now included directly, eliminating the need for a separate application process.
