Microsoft completes full end-to-end pipeline for voice agents: real-time transcription as you speak, voice generation latency as low as 45ms.

Beating AI Express News: Microsoft has rolled out three audio models in one go: MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming, MAI-Voice-2.1, and MAI-Voice-2.1-Flash. The first is designed for real-time speech-to-text, while the latter two handle text-to-speech, primarily targeting low-latency voice agents. MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming can output text continuously before a speaker finishes talking, supporting 60 languages and automatic language detection. Per Artificial Analysis’ streaming speech-to-text leaderboard, it ranks first in both final transcription accuracy and first partial transcription accuracy, with a word error rate (WER) of 2.5%. The final text is returned approximately 0.13 seconds after the speaker concludes, compared to Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0’s 2.7% WER and 0.49-second latency. MAI-Voice-2.1 supports 23 languages, enabling the same voice to switch between different languages. The Flash version is optimized for low latency, with model inference taking around 45ms and priced at $15 per million characters; the standard version has ~550ms latency and costs $22 per million characters. Both models support voice matching via a short reference audio clip. This suite addresses the waiting issue that most impacts voice agent user experience. The system can initiate transcription and inference while the user is still speaking, then use the Flash model to quickly generate voice responses, eliminating the need to wait for a full sentence to end before starting operations.

Key members of Trump’s core cabinet held a closed-door meeting at Camp David for several hours to discuss next steps regarding the Iran and Houthi conflicts.

According to three U.S. officials who spoke to Axios, multiple core members of U.S. President Donald Trump’s cabinet held a closed-door, hours-long meeting at Camp David on Friday to discuss next steps for a potential war with Iran and the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement. The Trump administration did not publicly announce the highly unusual gathering. The last comparable meeting took place in June 2025, just days before Israel launched a war on Iran. Officials said the session was chaired by Vice President JD Vance. Attendees included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine. One official noted of the Middle East crisis: “Some decisions have been made, or at least thoroughly discussed.” The White House declined to comment. Separately, on Friday afternoon, as advisors met at Camp David, reporters asked Trump about his next moves regarding Iran. Trump responded: “If I told you, you’d have a blockbuster news story. But you’ll have to wait and see. Things are going very well. Iran is not in a good position.”

a16z backs local AI assistant Underdog: Emails and calendars stay on users’ own computers.

Beating AI Insight News Brief: Conway Research has launched a personal AI assistant called Underdog, raising funding from investors including a16z and Khosla Ventures. The tool currently runs natively on Mac, connecting to users’ emails and calendars to assist with tasks like searching messages, organizing schedules, and handling daily work. The model operates locally, so personal data does not need to be processed by cloud-based AI, and it functions even without an internet connection. a16z has confirmed leading Conway Research’s seed round. Underdog’s ability to run on standard Macs stems from two key factors: its publicly available Woof model has only 4 billion parameters, with 4-bit weights taking up roughly 2.37GB, and the team developed the Husky inference engine, optimized specifically for Woof and Apple Silicon. The team tested the setup on an M5 Max, finding the same model outperformed MLX across 16 tasks, with a maximum speedup of 4.5 times. Founder Sigil Wen notes that daily tasks like searching emails, organizing files, and scheduling do not require calling the most powerful data center-hosted model every time. Small models, as long as they are sufficiently capable and fast, can handle a large number of tasks directly on users’ own devices. Underdog is next set to expand to iPhone, Windows, Linux, Android, and NVIDIA devices. Wen refers to this roadmap as “Underdog’s Law”: cutting-edge AI that today requires data centers to run will likely be accessible on personal devices in approximately six months. The team is also exploring use cases where agents can directly shop on users’ behalf, aiming to eventually build local AI into personal agents that retain long-term personal context and act directly on users’ behalf.

Microsoft's X account was hacked early this morning and used to promote a Clippy-themed meme coin.

Microsoft’s official X account was accessed without authorization on Thursday. During the unauthorized access, the account followed and reposted content from accounts promoting a Clippy-themed meme coin, and changed its profile picture to Clippy, Office’s classic paperclip assistant. Microsoft later confirmed to The Verge that the account has been secured, all unauthorized posts have been deleted, and the company is still investigating the incident. Some reports noted the compromised account also posted an “apology statement” saying Microsoft had not authorized the use of its intellectual property to promote the token, adding that the related coin is unrelated to Microsoft’s MSFT stock and does not grant holders any equity in the company. That post was later removed.

DDoS Defense Pioneer Launches New Startup, Secures $38 Million in a16z-Led Funding to Build AI Agent-Powered Version of Tailscale

Beating AI Insight News Brief: DDoS defense pioneer and Prolexic founder Barrett Lyon has launched doxx.net, securing $38 million in Series A funding led by a16z. The platform can be initially understood as Tailscale built specifically for AI agents—it connects computers, servers, and AI agents into a single private network, then controls which entities can connect and access what resources. For example, Tailscale lets you securely link a MacBook and Mac mini, then restrict cross-device and cross-port access; doxx.net goes further by enabling isolated management of agents running on a Mac mini, such as allowing only that agent to connect to a specific server and service, while blocking all other machines entirely. Its core difference from Tailscale is that agents are not merely integrated into the network—they can autonomously modify network configurations: onboarding devices, adjusting firewalls, setting up internal domains, and even completing full network setup. The platform’s developers even let users delegate configuration access directly to agents, letting them handle these tasks independently. This design is tailored for long-running AI agents, which will increasingly reside on computers and servers to deploy services, call APIs, and gain broader permissions over time. doxx.net’s goal is to manage these permissions in isolation, ensuring each agent only interacts with the machines and services it is authorized to use, with permissions that can be revoked immediately when no longer needed. Additionally, doxx.net operates its own IP addresses, DNS, certificate systems, and network infrastructure, while providing encrypted communication between devices. The product is now available for open testing.
