Besent: Plans to seize around $1 billion in crypto assets this week, and comprehensively escalate isolation operations against Iran.

According to U.S. media reports, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump administration is escalating its "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran to an "absolute isolation" operation. Beyond financial sanctions, the U.S. will further restrict Iran’s access to international markets, transportation networks, and financial resources via measures including maritime blockades, aviation restrictions, and cutting off land routes. Bessent revealed in an interview at the Newsmax NPolicy Summit in Washington on Thursday that the U.S. government "may seize approximately $1 billion worth of crypto assets this week," noting authorities have located the assets and are taking steps to isolate them. He added that the U.S. is cooperating with the United Arab Emirates and Oman, and coordinating with Pakistan and Turkey, to cut off Iran’s land transport routes. The administration’s stated goal is to fully block Iran’s oil exports and restrict international travel by Iranian officials and individuals affiliated with the regime. To date, the report has not disclosed the specific crypto assets involved in the seizure, wallet addresses, implementing agencies, or legal basis for the action, and it remains unclear whether the operation has been formally executed.

An iPhone version of Doubao mobile assistant has emerged? Developer demonstrates controlling an iPhone using Opus 5.5

Beating AI Express: Developer Finn Voorhees has demonstrated an AI agent capable of directly operating an iPhone. He only sent one prompt asking the agent to find the cheapest Ryanair flight to London for the next day. The agent then opened Ryanair on its own, input the destination, selected the date, checked fares, and finally returned to the chat interface to report the result—no computer was involved throughout the process. This agent runs in PiChat, an iPhone chat app developed by Voorhees. It leverages his previously open-sourced PiDurableKit at its core, running the Pi Agent on the iPhone via Apple’s JavaScriptCore to handle model calls, tool execution, and task management. The video uses Claude Opus 5.5, with model inference still running in the cloud. To enable the agent to continue working after switching to other apps, PiChat also uses Apple’s background task mechanism and saves execution progress via SQLite for easy resumption after interruptions. The most critical cross-app control code has not been made public. When activating iPhone Control in the video, the system required entering the lock screen password to enable XCTest UI automation. XCTest is Apple’s UI testing framework that can simulate taps, swipes, and text input. The open-source project TouchSynthesis leverages XCTest’s private interfaces to let iPhones generate touch events on their own, eliminating the need for real-time computer control. However, Voorhees has not confirmed whether he used this approach.

SK Hynix Chairman: Chip Demand Far Exceeds Expectations, New Gwangju Campus to Commence Construction as Soon as Possible

SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won said today that chip demand is expected to continue growing rapidly, so SK Hynix will accelerate the construction of its semiconductor campus in Gwangju, South Korea as much as possible, and plans to release a specific timeline soon. Choi noted that SK Hynix has brought forward the completion target of its Yongin semiconductor campus from 2045 to 2033, but future production capacity may still fall short of demand, and the company does not rule out advancing the construction of both the Yongin and Gwangju campuses simultaneously. The planned scale of the Gwangju campus is about two-thirds that of the Yongin campus, and it may be expanded later. Currently, the specific start date of the Gwangju project has not been finalized, and construction progress still requires coordination with the government for supporting infrastructure such as water and electricity. Choi added that even if some supporting facilities are not yet in place, the company may proceed with piling works first, but will not slash construction costs to rush the project.

Ripple co-founder Larsen’s political donations in this cycle have reached $22.5 million, targeting crypto, AI, and clean energy policies.

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen has donated at least $22.5 million to U.S. federal candidates and super PACs in this election cycle, and plans to expand his political spending further. According to Bloomberg, Larsen has a personal net worth of roughly $13.3 billion, with his focus this cycle on issues including cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, and billionaire taxes. Larsen previously opposed crypto industry political group Fairshake’s plan to spend $30 million to target Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown, and subsequently donated $4 million to Brown personally. While his firm Ripple has contributed $48 million to Fairshake in this cycle, bringing total donations to $93 million, Larsen and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse are reassessing future funding. In the AI space, Larsen has donated over $4.5 million to a super PAC that counters pro-AI groups, and has voiced support for setting strict safety guardrails for AI development. In the clean energy sector, a super PAC he backs has spent around $10 million to help defeat multiple Republican candidates who oppose renewable energy in primary elections. Additionally, Larsen has spent at least $12 million to oppose California’s proposed billionaire wealth tax.
