Cipher Digital plans to issue $850 million in convertible bonds to raise funds for its data center projects.

Nasdaq-listed crypto/blockchain firm Cipher Digital (CIFR) plans to raise $850 million by issuing zero-coupon convertible notes to support its Barber Lake project and expand its high-performance computing (HPC) data center business. In an October 13 announcement, the company said the private placement could be upsized to up to $1 billion if initial purchasers exercise their option to buy an additional $150 million in notes. Additionally, Cipher plans to exchange some of its existing convertible notes—carrying a 1.75% coupon rate and maturing in 2030—for common stock. The financing comes after the firm adjusted development plans for its Barber Lake project in Colorado City, Texas; those changes extended the project’s contract term while increasing Cipher’s construction costs. In September, Cipher noted an agreement with Fluidstack and an unnamed AI lab would extend the facility’s lease term from 10 years to 20 years, lifting contracted revenue from $3.8 billion to over $9 billion.

OpenCode 2.0 has rewritten its underlying layer: MCP tools can be connected via code, and multiple agents can run in parallel in the background.

Beating AI Express Insight: Open-source AI coding tool OpenCode 2.0 was officially unveiled after launching public beta in July. A key upgrade is the Code Mode, which converts MCP services and OpenAPI interfaces into JavaScript functions, enabling agents to chain multiple tools in a single script. For example, it can batch-read bugs from GitHub and create Linear tasks one by one, eliminating the need for the model to re-invoke for each data entry. Code Mode is enabled by default for all MCP services, reducing context occupied by tool definitions. OpenCode has also rewritten its underlying architecture: terminal, web, and desktop clients now share the same local backend service, accessing the same set of sessions. Sub-agents and shell commands can run in the background, such as having one agent review code while the main agent modifies files, and executing tests and builds simultaneously. The team has converted a large number of internal features into plugins, with over 80 available now, supporting runtime hot-loading—agents can write their own plugins and use them immediately. Additionally, OpenCode launched an SDK that can be embedded into other applications. Cloudflare has announced experimental interface support for OpenCode 2.0, allowing developers to run the same agent engine in Durable Objects, save sessions, and resume interrupted tasks. However, this overhaul has brought compatibility issues: 1.x plugins need to be rewritten, and the old Server API requires adaptation. A GitHub issue notes that Code Mode lacks timeout limits when calling plugins with long execution times, which may leave sessions waiting for extended periods, forcing manual interruption.
