Fujian police in China have cracked a virtual currency "black-on-black" robbery case, recovered most of the stolen funds and returned them to the victims.

According to Strait News, in March 2025, Zheng Mouyi, Zou and other accomplices exploited loopholes in the weak supervision and difficulty of evidence collection for over-the-counter (OTC) USDT transactions to premeditate a "rob from the robbers" robbery crime under the guise of offline virtual currency transactions. The group raised over 340,000 yuan to invite virtual currency merchants to conduct offline transactions. During the transaction, after the merchant transferred more than 40,000 USDT to the virtual wallet controlled by the group, Zheng Mouyi immediately sprayed the victim's eyes with pepper spray, and together with other accomplices violently robbed all the transaction funds. Afterwards, the six suspects divided the stolen money. The day after the incident, the public security organ quickly arrested all the suspects, recovered most of the stolen money and returned it to the victim. The Jin'an District Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against five people including Zheng Mouyi and Zou on charges of robbery in accordance with the law. In 2026, the court heard the case and sentenced the five defendants to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from 5 years and 7 months to 10 years and 4 months for the crime of robbery.

TypeSafe has upgraded Jev to version 1.14: The tool can locate objects from images, and returns coordinates even when it fails to identify the target.

Beating AI News Flash: TypeSafe AI has released Jev 1.14, rolling out experimental visual capabilities for its fast-judgment model. Developers can use the model to detect if a person is present in a camera feed, or compare two photos to confirm if they show the same dog. The new Box localization feature can also locate specified objects in images, returning coordinates of rectangular regions to guide other programs on where to crop or perform operations. TypeSafe CEO Diogo Almeida revealed that the older Jev 1.13 was already capable of processing images, but the team held back from launching this feature due to concerns about insufficient reliability in visual task accuracy. Both versions now support image input, with images usable directly as judgment conditions and options, though the Box localization feature is exclusive to Jev 1.14. In experimental mode, the context limit per single request has been expanded from 64,000 tokens to around 262,000 tokens, quadrupling the original capacity. The new version also enhances overall judgment capabilities; the company notes the most notable improvement is in multilingual support, though it did not disclose specific metrics. Jev 1.14 is currently available via `jev-preview`, with a planned rollout to the default stable version on October 21. However, TypeSafe explicitly warns that the visual and long-context features remain in the experimental phase and are not yet production-ready. Long context not only increases latency but may also reduce accuracy. Box localization also has a unique limitation: it will return coordinate boxes even if the specified object is not present in the image. As such, developers must additionally verify the existence of the target to prevent subsequent programs from operating on incorrect positions.
