JPMorgan says the pullback in storage stocks presents a buying opportunity, naming Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix as core overweight targets.

JPMorgan’s Asia Pacific equity research team said South Korea’s third-quarter earnings season will launch the week of October 19, and the recent sharp pullback in memory chip stocks is creating a medium-term buying opportunity. The bank dubs the current phase the “expectation reset season” for memory stocks, noting a cognitive disconnect between market worries over AI spending sustainability and memory chip supply-demand fundamentals, with excessive sentiment offering a favorable risk-reward window to bet on a “longer, higher” upward cycle for the memory industry. JPMorgan data shows memory stocks have dropped ~6% and ~15% over the past month and three months respectively, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gained ~10% and fell ~4% in the same periods. The bank’s core overweight picks for the next six months include Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Kioxia, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, ISU, and ISC, spanning memory chips and their supporting industrial chain. JPMorgan sees the October 19-starting earnings season as a key verification window, focusing on corporate earnings, memory spot prices, AI-related orders, and capex changes. If memory supply-demand continues to weaken, catalysts fail to materialize, or corporate earnings are broadly revised downward, the bank will reassess its above view.

Higher-than-expected US CPI sparks ETH long liquidation cascade, Binance records over $106 million in liquidations within one hour.

Crypto market analyst Darkfost wrote that the latest U.S. CPI data came in higher than market expectations, reigniting inflationary pressures and triggering sharp volatility in the crypto derivatives market. Following the release of the inflation data, Ethereum (ETH) saw massive long liquidations. Darkfost noted that over $106 million in long positions were liquidated in Binance’s ETH contracts within an hour, marking the largest single-hour liquidation event in nearly six months. ETH subsequently dropped from around $2,500 to near $2,350, a decline of roughly 7%. Darkfost pointed out that crypto futures trading volume is currently about nine times that of spot trading, making the market more sensitive to macroeconomic data. As inflation heats up, the market’s probability of pricing in a Federal Reserve interest rate hike has risen from 17% to nearly 30% in a week, with investors quickly adjusting their positions via derivatives markets.

Elon Musk: Experienced roughly 6 "AI psychotic episodes" over the past year, stunned by AI’s demonstrated aesthetic capabilities.

Dongcha Beating AI News Flash: Elon Musk recently stated at an X Takeover event that he has experienced roughly six instances of so-called "AI psychosis" over the past year, adding that his immersion in AI may be "quite severe." What most shocked him was that AI began showing an understanding of aesthetics and taste. Musk said he found it hard to believe when he noticed AI seemed capable of judging what is beautiful and what constitutes good taste. This reaction stems more from the cognitive shock of AI capabilities exceeding expectations rather than a formal medical diagnosis. "AI psychosis" is not a medical term with a unified clinical definition. On one hand, it is used to describe the risk that AI interactions may reinforce users’ unrealistic perceptions; on the other, it has gradually become a popular meme in Silicon Valley’s tech circle, used to tease practitioners’ extreme optimistic expectations driven by the rapid advancement of AI capabilities.
