Ledger Responds to Hardware Implant Attack: Incident Tied to Localized Distribution Channel Attack, Orders Authorized Resellers in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to Suspend Sales

Crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has released a statement responding to hardware implant attacks, alleging that criminal groups purchased legitimate Ledger devices, installed hidden components designed to steal users' recovery mnemonics during initialization, and reintroduced the tampered devices to the market via Southeast Asian distributors. Ledger emphasized that its chips, operating system, and servers were not compromised, and characterized the incident as a localized attack on distribution channels after devices left the company’s control, rather than a systemic supply chain attack. The company has requested authorized dealers and distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to suspend sales. Ledger added that it purchased and disassembled devices from stores in Germany and other regions, and inspected its own warehouse and inventory samples, with no tampering detected in any tested devices. It is also tightening channel management: returned devices, even if appearing brand-new and unopened, may not be resold; products must not be placed on shelves or display areas, stored in backrooms, and delivered only at the time of purchase; distributors are required to report abnormal products promptly. Ledger stated that it is working with law enforcement agencies and the security community to trace funds and dismantle attack infrastructure, and will disclose more technical details in the future.

Inflation pressure continues to build, as U.S. September PPI data surges.

Driven by rising energy costs, the U.S. September Producer Price Index (PPI) exceeded expectations across the board, signaling that the impact of higher energy prices is spreading to all sectors of the U.S. economy. Data released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the September PPI rose 1.3% month-over-month and 6.3% year-over-year. Excluding food and energy, core PPI increased by 0.7% month-over-month and 5% year-over-year. The report noted that alongside rising fuel prices, underlying inflationary pressures in the U.S. remain persistent. With the November midterm elections just weeks away, the burden of rising living costs has become a central campaign issue. This data could also prompt Federal Reserve officials to continue raising interest rates in the coming months, particularly as another report released Wednesday showed a key U.S. consumer price metric rose faster than expected in September. The report also indicated that price pressures are expected to stay elevated in the coming months. A gauge measuring input price expectations over the next six months rose to its highest level since 2022.

Ledger launches AI agent authorization tool Agent Intent, enabling users to approve operations while retaining control over their private keys.

Crypto hardware wallet maker Ledger has announced the launch of Ledger Agent Intent, which is now available for free to all Ledger-compatible signing devices. The AI agent can monitor markets and offer portfolio optimization suggestions; users review and approve related operations on their Ledger devices, with private keys remaining fully under their control. Ledger notes that Agent Intent will integrate directly with OpenClaw, allowing users to register and authorize OpenClaw agents on Ledger Atom devices, where the OpenClaw app will be pre-installed. The tool also supports the Solana Foundation’s Pay.sh, with requests from the agent entering a unified queue that users can choose to sign at their preferred time. On the privacy front, Ledger has partnered with Venice AI. The company states that while the agent leverages AI capabilities, user data will not be used as training data for third-party models.
