Perplexity open-sourced SPACE: The project grants AI full root access while leaving keys outside the virtual machine.

Beating AI News Flash: Perplexity has open-sourced SPACE, the underlying sandbox platform powering its Computer, under the Apache 2.0 license. Built on Firecracker, SPACE creates independent micro virtual machines (VMs) for each agent task. AI can gain root access to freely install software and run commands within these VMs, but cannot directly control the host machine. API keys are managed by the system outside the VMs, and all external network connections are routed through a dedicated gateway for inspection to prevent agents from accessing resources beyond their permissions. SPACE also supports long-running agent tasks: it saves the VM’s memory, runtime state, and files, allowing tasks to resume after pausing, or even fork from the same progress to test different approaches, eliminating the need to restart from scratch every time an interruption occurs. Perplexity stated it replaced its original commercial sandbox service with SPACE in July this year, and currently creates millions of sandboxes daily. Compared to the previous service, the median sandbox creation latency dropped from 185 milliseconds to 60 milliseconds, a roughly 3x speed improvement.

Among the big three memory chip makers, US-based Micron has shown notable strength, while SK Hynix has given back most of its gains from the current cycle.

According to TradingBeats' monitoring, contracts for Micron, SK Hynix, and SanDisk on Hyperliquid have all declined notably from their respective peaks since the late-July rebound. However, their relative strength during that prior rebound phase varied: Micron is currently the most resilient to drops, while SK Hynix has recorded the largest pullback. Micron (MU) has fallen from its October 2 high of $1,114.90 to $923.62, a total pullback of roughly 17.16%—the smallest among the three. SanDisk (SNDK) has dropped from its September 22 high of $1,908 to $1,378.40, a total pullback of around 27.76%, roughly 10.60 percentage points more than Micron. SK Hynix (SKHX) has fallen from its September 10 high of $1,438.40 to $958.73, a total pullback of around 33.35%—the largest among the three, underperforming Micron by approximately 16.19 percentage points. During the earlier rebound period, however, the top performer was SanDisk, which now sits in the middle of the three in terms of pullbacks, while Micron posted the smallest gains. Using the July 31 intraday lows of each asset as the storage sector's trough, SanDisk rallied to a peak of roughly 60.27%, SK Hynix to around 38.73%, and Micron to about 36.14%.

Google Rolls Out Cross-Store AI Shopping Cart: Add Items from Nike and Walmart Together, Checkout Separately

Beating AI News: Google has started rolling out its Universal Cart feature in the United States, allowing users to add products from different merchants into a single shopping cart across Google Search and Gemini. For example, users can add a Steve Madden bag found via Search and an Ulta Beauty lipstick selected in Gemini, with all items saved in the cart for future purchases. The feature was first unveiled at this year’s Google I/O in May and is now officially launching. Integrated with Google’s Shopping Graph, which contains over 60 billion product entries, the cart continuously monitors prices and stock levels. It proactively alerts users when items drop in price or are restocked, and helps locate promo codes. Additionally, it combines credit card cashback, points, and other benefits from Google Wallet to suggest more cost-effective payment methods. It’s important to note that cross-merchant addition to the cart does not mean unified cross-merchant checkout. Items remain grouped by merchant: merchants supporting the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) can process payments directly via Google Pay, while other merchants require users to redirect to their respective websites to complete transactions. The first batch of partner merchants includes Nike, Walmart, Target, Sephora, and numerous Shopify sellers. Order confirmation and after-sales services are handled by individual merchants.
