Google open-sources Harness²: Allows AI to autonomously improve toolchains, lifting GLM-5's benchmark score by 11.5 points.

Insight: Beating AI Flash News, Google Research has open-sourced Harness², enabling AI agents to automatically modify system prompts, memory, skills, tool rules, and even scripts and plugins without retraining the underlying model. The project is licensed under Apache 2.0 and supports OpenCode and Codex. Its core mechanism lets agents learn through trial and error: when facing a new task, the system first proposes multiple improvement plans, has different agent versions execute them separately, compares their performance, and finally combines the best elements to form a more suitable solution. Even without a standard answer, it can identify improvement directions based on actual execution processes. After a task is completed, the system retains records of which modifications worked and why, so it can reference this data for similar tasks in the future instead of starting from scratch each time. Google tested Harness² using GLM-5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash. On WorkBuddy-Bench, GLM-5 paired with OpenCode saw its average score jump from 64.2 to 75.7 after just one round of optimization, outperforming unoptimized Gemini 3.5 Flash’s 72.4 points. In legal task tests, GLM-5’s pass rate for some scoring criteria also rose from 59.6% to 71.4%. However, the experiment defaulted to Claude Opus 4.8 for proposing and implementing improvements, with GLM-5 and Gemini primarily responsible for executing tasks—meaning the evolution was not achieved entirely by these models on their own. Chinese developer Joseph Zhou also demonstrated an experiment integrating Harness² with Jev 1.14, noting consistent improvements in performance on visual tasks.

Omarchy author DHH slams Chinese software as overly crude, naming WeChat, Alipay and HarmonyOS.

Beating AI News, a crypto and blockchain news outlet, reports that renowned developer DHH (David Heinemeier Hansson) introduced his self-developed Linux desktop system Omarchy at the GOSIM conference in Shenzhen on October 17, and later attended a developer gathering with over 500 registrants. The next day, he praised Huawei’s MateBook Fold foldable device as futuristic, but in the evening criticized Chinese software as overly crude, naming WeChat, Alipay, and HarmonyOS. DHH stated that while he greatly admires China’s AI models and hardware, its software design remains confusing to him. He elaborated that the issues center on interface aesthetics, user workflows, and detail refinement, citing problems like insufficient white space, inconsistent margins, jarring page transitions, rough animations, and disorganized information architecture. DHH noted that large Silicon Valley apps still hold a clear lead in these areas. Some netizens pushed back, arguing that WeChat and Alipay integrate a wide range of lifestyle services including payments and transportation, reducing the need for users to switch between apps, so complex interfaces are unavoidable. DHH disagreed, asserting that rich functionality and refined design can coexist, and there is no excuse for super apps to be so crude. Others in the comment section pointed out that the complexity of domestic apps is tied to commercialization: splash-screen shake-to-open ads, loan portals, and short video recommendations are increasingly crowding out core functional interfaces. One developer analogized this to adding loan features to X and stuffing TikTok into Stripe.

Cathie Wood is bullish on storage chips, while Bank of America warns that risk assets are not yet at a bottom-buying opportunity.

ARK Invest founder Cathie Wood recently stated that memory chips have entered a buy zone, adding that the rapid rise in memory prices and the impact of falling electronics sales have already been partially priced into stocks. In contrast, Michael Hartnett, Chief Investment Strategist at Bank of America Global Research, pointed out that the end of market sell signals does not mark the arrival of a buying opportunity, as two key prerequisites for a return to risk assets remain unmet. The surge in memory chip prices is mainly driven by AI servers crowding out production capacity, with original manufacturers shifting more output to high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and server DDR5, resulting in tightened supply for consumer-grade memory. According to TrendForce data, DRAM contract prices are projected to rise 90%–95% quarter-on-quarter in Q1 2026 and 58%–63% in Q2 2026, while NAND Flash contract prices will increase 55%–60% and 70%–75% respectively in the same periods. Soaring memory costs have also begun to impact the consumer electronics supply chain. Citing IDC data, global smartphone shipments in Q3 2026 fell 22% year-on-year to 255.3 million units. Memory original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) benefit from the price hikes, while end-device brands face the dual challenges of rising costs and weak sales. Key areas to monitor going forward include whether DRAM/NAND contract price gains continue to narrow, whether declines in smartphone and PC shipments improve, whether memory’s share of end-device material costs has peaked, and whether memory OEMs will reallocate production capacity to consumer-grade products.

USDC on Initia will migrate from Noble to Injective.

Full-chain Rollup L1 network Initia announced that due to Circle’s upcoming shutdown of USDC on Noble, USDC on Initia will be migrated to Injective. Initia Labs has developed a Redemption Vault, so users do not need to take any action. Existing USDC.n will remain functional; newly deposited USDC will arrive as USDC.inj, and outgoing USDC.n will be automatically redeemed to USDC.inj via the vault and sent to the intended address. Applications may gradually transition from USDC.n to USDC.inj, and users can also swap at a 1:1 ratio via the Initia Wallet. Initia stated that after January 12, 2027, only Noble USDC held in wallets will be eligible for redemption from Circle, at which point USDC.n on Initia will no longer be redeemable. The vault allows USDC.n holders to avoid rushing to act before the Noble CCTP deprecation deadline. The full proposal is published on Initia Scan.

Estimate of Elon Musk’s Nationwide Crypto Airdrop: Maximum Value Around $10.7 Billion

Elon Musk plans to give one share of SpaceX stock to every child in the U.S. next year. Calculated based on SpaceX’s October 16 closing price of $146.03, the total value of the shares would be around $10.222 billion if covering roughly 70 million children, and about $10.714 billion if covering the 73.37 million eligible children estimated by the U.S. Treasury for 2026. The White House announced on October 7 that nearly 70 million "Trump accounts" have been established, with over 60 million created via automatic registration. If the share gifting plan is implemented through these accounts, the existing account count can serve as a preliminary estimate. All amounts are calculated at current stock prices; the actual scale of the share gifts and their total value depend on the final number of recipients, the implementation plan, and the stock price at delivery.
