An accomplice in the Qian Zhimin case handed over 5.6 million pounds to the UK government.

According to the Daily Mail UK, a man who laundered funds for a fraudster involved in a 5.5-billion-pound scam has surrendered 5.6 million pounds to the UK government. 48-year-old Hok Seng Ling, who pleaded guilty to participating in what is considered the UK’s largest money laundering case by value, was ordered by the court to hand over the funds. He served as the "butler" of Qian Zhimin, who orchestrated a Ponzi scheme that defrauded over 128,000 Chinese investors between 2014 and 2017, then converted the illicit proceeds into bitcoin and fled to the UK. Malaysian national Ling, who resides in Matlock, Derbyshire, assisted the so-called "Bitcoin Queen" in laundering illegal funds, helping her evade UK police pursuit by booking Airbnb accommodations and arranging support staff. Last November, after Ling pleaded guilty to money laundering-related offenses at Southwark Crown Court in London, he was sentenced to 4 years and 11 months in prison. A confiscation order was later issued, requiring him to surrender 5,603,305 pounds, most of which came from cryptocurrency seized at his arrest. The full sum has now been recovered, along with an additional 1,990 pounds in interest.

Reuters: 100 economists unanimously forecast the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates again in December.

Reuters’ latest survey indicates that market expectations for the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook are undergoing a notable shift. Expectations of an October rate hike have cooled, but a consensus among surveyed economists now holds that another rate hike in December is likely, as strong economic growth and persistent inflation pressures are reshaping monetary policy expectations. The survey, conducted between October 16 and 20, polled 94 economists who projected the Fed will keep the federal funds rate in the 3.75% to 4.00% range at its October 27-28 meeting. This outlook aligns with market pricing, and the meeting falls just days ahead of the U.S. November midterm elections. In contrast, expectations for December rates have seen a sharp turnaround: last month’s survey found fewer than half of economists anticipated a December rate hike, while this time, all 100 respondents forecast another hike by then.

Former Bank of Japan Executive Director Eiji Maeda: I expect the next interest rate hike will take place in December, with another one to follow in March or April. The current pace of rate hikes has accelerated to roughly once every three months, which I deem appropriate. (Jinshi)
