SlowMist: PHP discloses two critical remote code execution vulnerabilities, both with a CVSS v4.0 score of 9.2

SlowMist issued a statement noting that PHP published a security advisory on October 20, disclosing two critical vulnerabilities that could lead to remote code execution (RCE), with CVE identifiers CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, both scoring 9.2 on the CVSS v4.0 scale. No official patch has been released to date, and the vulnerabilities’ technical details, exploitation conditions, and affected versions remain unconfirmed by the PHP project. Third-party reports suggest PHP 5 and subsequent versions may be impacted, though this scope has not been verified. The official is expected to roll out a security update at 14:00 UTC (22:00 Beijing time) on October 21. SlowMist recommends relevant teams audit PHP versions across their servers and business systems, prioritize checking internet-facing services, and update immediately after the official patch becomes available. If a fix is not immediately feasible, restrict access to exposed PHP services and isolate them if needed.

Reuters: 100 economists unanimously forecast the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates again in December.

Reuters’ latest survey indicates that market expectations for the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook are undergoing a notable shift. Expectations of an October rate hike have cooled, but a consensus among surveyed economists now holds that another rate hike in December is likely, as strong economic growth and persistent inflation pressures are reshaping monetary policy expectations. The survey, conducted between October 16 and 20, polled 94 economists who projected the Fed will keep the federal funds rate in the 3.75% to 4.00% range at its October 27-28 meeting. This outlook aligns with market pricing, and the meeting falls just days ahead of the U.S. November midterm elections. In contrast, expectations for December rates have seen a sharp turnaround: last month’s survey found fewer than half of economists anticipated a December rate hike, while this time, all 100 respondents forecast another hike by then.

Former Bank of Japan Executive Director Eiji Maeda: I expect the next interest rate hike will take place in December, with another one to follow in March or April. The current pace of rate hikes has accelerated to roughly once every three months, which I deem appropriate. (Jinshi)
