Anthropic’s first Claude API update in three years removes three commonly used parameters, which may trigger errors in legacy code after upgrade.

Beating AI News: Anthropic has released a new version of its Claude API, `2026-10-21` — the first official update to the API’s version number since June 2023. Over the past three years, the Claude model has seen continuous iterations, but its API version remained unchanged. Anthropic plans to update APIs more frequently moving forward, to allow developers to adapt in advance to potential compatibility issues arising from new models. This update primarily removes three parameters: `temperature`, `top_p`, and `top_k`, which were originally used to control the randomness and generation patterns of model responses. After upgrading to the new API, if code still passes these parameters, it will throw an error directly. Some other old fields and message formats have also been adjusted. Anthropic has simultaneously updated its official SDK, with the new version defaulting to `2026-10-21`. Developers can use the `/claude-api` Skill in Claude Code to assist with code modifications. That said, the old version `2023-06-01` remains available, so existing projects do not need to migrate immediately.

Coldcard manufacturer Coinkite faces class-action lawsuit in Canada over firmware random number vulnerability.

Coldcard hardware wallet manufacturer Coinkite, along with its co-founders Rodolfo Novak and Peter D. Gray, is facing a class-action lawsuit in Ontario, Canada. The lawsuit alleges that Coldcard’s standard firmware, in use since around March 2021, has a fundamental flaw: it does not use a true random number generator (TRNG) and instead relies on a predictable software-based pseudo-random number generator (PRNG), which enables mnemonic phrase recovery and exposes users’ Bitcoin to unauthorized access. The suit seeks class certification, and claims Coinkite violated the Consumer Protection Act, Sale of Goods Act, negligence, and breach of contract, among other legal claims, and is demanding damages.

The Ethereum community has proposed a "Decoupled Consensus" draft, designed to accelerate transaction finality and enhance resistance to chain reorganization.

According to GitHub information, a core protocol draft titled "Decoupled Consensus" has emerged in the Ethereum EIP repository. The proposal suggests separating the beacon chain's head voting and finality proof voting to enhance fork choice security, shorten finality time, and lay the foundation for a future transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQ). Co-authored by Francesco D'Amato, Roberto Saltini, Yann Vonlanthen, Mikhail Kalinin, and Ben Edgington, among others, the draft remains in an early stage with multiple details undetermined. The submitter currently aims primarily to obtain an EIP number. The proposal is pending further review and has not yet been merged.

The IRGC added that three other vessels struck mines west of the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC warned the U.S. military that continued provocations could trigger larger-scale retaliation targeting its regional bases. (Jinshi)
