Beating AI Exclusive Insight: ByteDance’s Volcano Engine Launches Seedance 2.5 4K for 4K Film & TV Production. ByteDance’s Volcano Engine has released Seedance 2.5 4K, upgrading its previous Seedance 2.5 (which supported up to 1080P) to enable 4K film and television production. Beyond the resolution boost, the new version has enhanced character micro-expressions, subtle movements, and frame details through specialized training. According to the official, when performing reference generation and video editing, the model can better retain the clarity, colors, and small text of original materials. Currently, the first batch is only available to 20 global film and television studios and directors on a targeted basis, with around 20 works participating in trials. The earliest project is scheduled to air on satellite TV in November.

SpaceX and Tesla's potential merger may face antitrust scrutiny.

U.S. financial media outlet Semafor reported this week that Elon Musk has proposed a merger between Tesla (TSLA.O) and SpaceX (SPCX.O). A former U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) official said the risk of antitrust issues arising is real. The official noted that antitrust regulators typically view such "vertical" mergers as pro-competitive, as they help improve supply chain efficiency. However, if the Tesla-SpaceX merger is deemed a potential "vertical exclusionary" deal, regulators may seek to block it. The official explained that an "exclusionary" scenario refers to a company leveraging its market position to restrict competitors at other levels of its supply chain. In this case, if only Tesla vehicles were allowed to use SpaceX technologies like Starlink in the future, other autonomous driving or electric vehicle manufacturers could suffer as a result.

Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in OpenAI's AI security defenses, with hundreds of operations potentially remaining undetected.

Beating AI Flash News: OpenAI originally deployed a monitoring system to track internal AI Agents for unauthorized actions, deception, or covert dangerous operations. Following audits by AI security firms METR and Redwood Research, the system itself was found to have multiple vulnerabilities. Two researchers worked on-site for three weeks, reviewing internal code and monitoring configurations, and submitted a 61-page report. One of the most severe flaws could let an AI evade monitoring for its last several hundred operations, with the system even failing to detect how the AI bypassed checks. Researchers also found Codex could theoretically break out of the sandbox restricting its operational scope, bypass automated security reviews, and gain the same access as its user. Additionally, two settings could directly disable monitoring for newly launched Agents, though enabling these settings might still be detected. The monitoring system’s design also had issues: the legacy system primarily checked an AI’s past activities only after it completed its current task. If the AI kept executing tasks without returning control to the user, it could avoid checks entirely. The system also lacked a step to compress historical records. Researchers estimated that between May and July 2026, around 10% of internal Codex traffic that should have been monitored was missed due to this gap. OpenAI employees had previously identified the problem and fixed it during the audit. OpenAI stated all vulnerabilities affecting its formal security protection systems have been patched, though the two firms have not yet conducted independent re-tests.

Building a trendy toy IP for the AI era, Capybobo revolutionizes children's education with generative interactive games.

Web3 collectible toy project Capybobo released a teaser video yesterday, outlining its direction for an AI-generated interactive game that aims to revolutionize children’s educational experiences via personalized gameplay, while extending in-game character companionship to physical collectible toys. Per the project’s vision, the AI will generate unique storylines based on each player’s interactions, integrating learning into gameplay. The same capybara character will embark on distinct stories with different players; these experiences will become the character’s unique memories, gradually shaping different personalities. The characters’ memories and personalities will also be carried over to their corresponding physical IP collectible toys, bringing in-game companionship into the real world. Each toy will hold the stories it shares with its user, possessing its own unique "soul".

Sweden’s central bank calls for a reassessment of the e-krona, warning that stablecoins and the digital euro could undermine the domestic currency’s payment standing.

The Swedish central bank (Riksbank) is pushing lawmakers to re-examine the necessity of issuing an e-krona, arguing that the Swedish krona’s use in payment systems may face long-term pressure amid the growth of foreign stablecoins and the digital euro. Per Jansson, deputy governor of the Riksbank, stated that if cash becomes further digitized and the krona lacks a convenient digital form, the domestic currency may struggle to compete with cross-border digital payment tools. While the central bank has not yet decided whether to officially issue an e-krona, it hopes legislative preparations will start as soon as possible, as the relevant institutional and technical work is expected to take at least five years. Sweden’s cash usage rate has fallen to a low level: central bank data shows only around 5% of respondents used cash for their most recent shopping trip. The Riksbank also believes the e-krona can serve as a backup payment tool during power or communication outages and may support offline payments. If the digital euro secures EU legislative approval, it could launch as early as 2029, and Sweden may draw on its infrastructure in the future.
