Payward’s subsidiary CF Benchmarks launches CFB oracle service to provide benchmark data for blockchain applications.

CF Benchmarks’ pricing indices underpin the pricing of BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF and cryptocurrency futures on CME Group. As an increasing number of financial institutions look to offer traditional investment products via decentralized finance (DeFi), the firm is integrating its market data into blockchain networks. Owned by Payward, the parent company of Kraken, CF Benchmarks has launched the CFB Oracle service, which provides benchmark data for cryptocurrencies, stocks, bonds, commodities, and foreign exchange to blockchain applications. The service is designed to enable developers of blockchain investment products to use the same pricing infrastructure as large financial institutions.

Gamdom is being extorted by ransomware group Whitearmor for a $15 million Bitcoin ransom.

Gamdom has not fully recovered from the multi-million-dollar hot wallet theft, and is now facing a new security crisis. Cyber ransomware group Whitearmor claims to hold a database containing 15,420,003 customer accounts, demanding a $15 million Bitcoin ransom to prevent the data from being publicly disclosed. Whitearmor published Gamdom-related information on its ransomware site, asserting access to 146 data fields per account. The group also released a roughly 437KB JSON sample file with around 100 records as evidence of its possession of the data. According to reports, attackers exploited an outdated internal machine account to carry out the attack. The account’s credentials were never rotated, so despite being long-established, it still retained administrator privileges.

US CFTC plans to increase the publication frequency of its Commitments of Traders (COT) report to twice a week.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is working to boost the release frequency of the closely watched Commitment of Traders (COT) Report to twice weekly by the end of this year. Currently published every Friday, the report details buying and selling activity in the commodities market, categorizing participants into hedge funds, other asset management firms, and commercial trading entities. Producers rely on the report to inform their hedging decisions, while speculators use the data to monitor shifts in market positions and whether related bets are overly concentrated. CFTC Chair Michael Selig stated last week at an agricultural commodities futures conference held in Kansas that the plan to increase the report’s release frequency stems from demands from the agricultural community.
