Google equips Genie 4 with Gemini as its "director": generating worlds and planning storylines simultaneously.

Beating AI News Flash: Google DeepMind has unveiled its next-generation world model, Genie 4. Users can generate explorable virtual worlds via text input, control movement with a keyboard, and adjust weather or add characters at any time. The model simulates collisions, aerodynamics, and character movements, and for the first time natively generates ambient sounds, music, and real-time dialogue. Characters not only speak but also respond based on the scene and user input. Genie 4 leverages Gemini Omni to enhance the realism of visuals and physical behaviors, while Gemini 3.8 Flash acts as the real-time controller. The latter continuously monitors the scene, breaks tasks into steps, checks if actions are completed, and determines the next move. Google also demonstrated a use case where Gemini 4 Argon planned a humanoid robot’s checkers game, with Genie 4 simulating the movements in real time. Each simulation runs for up to around 2 minutes, twice the length of the previous Project Genie experience. However, after extended scene runtime, objects’ positions and appearances may still change unexpectedly. In an official demo of a motorcyclist, a helmet suddenly appeared out of nowhere between shots. Genie 4 is currently available only to a small group of invited testers, and will later roll out to Google AI Ultra, Gemini API, and AI Studio. Google aims to use it for creating game prototypes, rehearsing film scenes, and more importantly, enabling robots and AI agents to practice complex tasks in virtual worlds.

Swiss AI firm Giotto claimed to build Europe’s most powerful sovereign AI, but after being exposed as a fraud, it admitted that "some model weights came from Kimi".

Dong察 Beating AI News Flash: Swiss AI lab Giotto has launched two models, Alto and Solo, claiming to have built "Europe's smartest sovereign AI". The lab emphasized that the models are hosted on European cloud infrastructure, with data remaining in Europe, and do not rely on U.S. cloud service providers. However, shortly after release, netizens uncovered issues. When testing Alto, the model surprisingly identified itself as Kimi, developed by China's Moonshot AI. Facing community inquiries, Aldo Podestà, co-founder and CEO of Giotto, admitted the models did inherit some Kimi weights, but stressed the team had conducted retraining and added self-developed inference-time computing (TTC) technology. He provided no details on the specific Kimi version used or which exact weights were inherited. More ironically, Podestà himself published an article titled "Open Source is a Trojan Horse" on October 19, criticizing Europe for packaging open-source models as "sovereign AI", noting such moves often amount to another form of dependency on external parties. Just 8 days later, he was caught doing the exact same thing – a clear case of the pot calling the kettle black. This is not an isolated incident. On September 2, Spanish AI firm Multiverse Computing promoted its Quasar 438B as "Europe's leading AI model", but omitted the model's base architecture in its launch announcement. It was only the next day that a technical post clarified the model was actually compressed and optimized based on Zhipu AI's GLM-5.2.
