Hackers claim to have leaked data of over 40,000 employees of the US Department of Homeland Security via an Okta breach, with DDoSecrets publicly releasing the information.

According to TechCrunch, a hacker identifying as "Department of Peace" claimed to have obtained a large volume of employee data from the Okta single sign-on system used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The data was publicly released Wednesday as the "Icepick" dataset by transparency organization Distributed Denial of Secrets (DDoSecrets). The leaked records number over 40,000, roughly one-fifth of DHS’s approximately 220,000 employees. The data includes names, job titles, work emails, phone numbers, office locations, and internal system access permissions. Among the records, around 21,000 belong to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) staff, roughly 10,000 relate to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and nearly 1,000 are from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). TechCrunch said it verified the authenticity of some data, with timestamps indicating the data was exported around mid-August. The hacker also provided the data to journalist and hacker maia arson crimew, who then forwarded it to DDoSecrets. Okta responded that its systems and data were not breached; a DHS spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment. The report notes this is the third high-profile U.S. government data breach in the past month, following earlier thefts of FBI personnel files and Pentagon personnel data.

A "tax avoidance conspiracy theory" about Samsung is circulating on South Korean online forums: the tech giant's controlling family deliberately depressed its stock price ahead of next January.

Citrini analyst Jukan said in a social media post that Samsung’s current stock performance lags behind SK Hynix. This appears to stem from Samsung’s shareholder return plan being either less generous than initially anticipated or still mired in uncertainty. Against this backdrop, a conspiracy theory circulating in South Korea claims Samsung management deliberately avoids bullish outlooks due to tax considerations involving the firm’s controlling family, Chairman Lee Jae-yong. More specifically, Hong Ra-hee, Lee Jae-yong’s mother, gifted Samsung stock to her son. Reportedly, the gift tax Lee owes is calculated based on the average closing price over the four-month window spanning two months before and after the November 12 gift date, running from September 12, 2026 to January 12, 2027. As such, the Samsung controlling family has no incentive to lift the stock price before next January.

According to Yonhap News, South Korean virtual asset exchange Prabang (???) suffered an asset loss of approximately 100 million won in a hacker attack. The platform has announced it has temporarily suspended services and will fully compensate affected funds using its own assets. Industry sources said Prabang detected abnormal withdrawals from its hot wallet on the 24th of this month, immediately activated emergency response and launched a full investigation, during which a security vulnerability was uncovered. On the 26th, the exchange confirmed unauthorized external access, filed a report with relevant authorities, and continues to probe the cause and scale of losses. Yonhap noted that recent hacker-related incidents have occurred one after another in the financial and virtual asset sectors, but this is the first confirmed case of actual asset loss. The report also pointed out that this incident appears to be separate from the Prabang-related accident mentioned by financial authorities in the AI hack intrusion inspection results on the 14th of this month. Additionally, on the 27th, Bithumb experienced a hacker attack targeting its internal systems, leading to the leakage of employees’ personal information. On the same day, some won-denominated trading platforms also faced intrusion attempts targeting personal information and assets.
