MicroStrategy plans to increase its Bitcoin holdings through preferred stock financing, with Saylor stating this could create up to $30 billion in digital credit.

Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said during the third-quarter earnings call that the company can leverage its existing balance sheet to generate up to $30 billion in digital credit for additional Bitcoin purchases, without issuing new common stock for financing or relying on further Bitcoin price gains. Saylor noted the company is capable of creating $10 billion, $20 billion, or even $30 billion in digital credit. Strategy CEO Phong Le stated that issuing digital credit will be the company’s primary method to acquire more Bitcoin. If the company raises $1 billion to $2 billion via STRC preferred stock within a month, it will allocate part of the funds to dollar reserves and the rest to Bitcoin purchases. The earnings report showed Strategy’s third-quarter net profit was $19.53 billion, mainly driven by a $20.91 billion increase in the value of its digital assets. As of October 25, the company holds 848,517 BTC, with a 26% increase in holdings year-to-date. It should be noted that the $30 billion figure represents potential financing capacity, not an announced financing target. Additionally, Strategy disclosed that CFO Andrew Kang will step down on November 5 for personal reasons. Financial functions will be overseen by Phong Le until new CFO Reza Virasteh takes office on January 1, 2027.

Cursor Extension Store Poisoned: SSH Backdoor Implanted in Claude Code, Affecting Up to 5,000 Users

Beating AI News (Insight) reports: Cursor disclosed that on October 29, a maliciously tampered version of Claude Code 2.1.313 appeared in its extension marketplace. The installer was not created by Anthropic and was listed on the store for roughly 11 hours. Cursor estimates up to 5,000 users were affected and will contact them directly. Security research firm OpenSourceMalware analyzed the incident and found attackers inserted 66 lines of malicious code before the plugin’s legitimate code. The malware executes as soon as the editor loads the extension—no interaction with Claude is required. It collects device details including the computer name, Git email, and public IP, and secretly adds the attacker’s SSH key to the system’s authorized list. The malware then attempts to enable remote login, connect to the attacker’s server via a reverse SSH tunnel, and sets up a background task to run on startup, trying to reconnect every 60 seconds. However, the malicious code contains bugs. Cursor noted most Mac and Windows devices lack the admin privileges needed to enable SSH, so attackers generally cannot log in via the tunnel. Still, adding the malicious key, installing the background script, and exfiltrating device information may succeed. Even devices with SSH enabled are not safe. Cursor has removed the malicious extension, temporarily shut down its entire extension marketplace, and assisted in taking down the attacker’s server. Affected users must check their SSH authorized files for `svc-telemetry` and clean up using the official fix script; uninstalling the extension alone is insufficient, as the backdoor may persist.
