Aave will reduce its borrowing limits ahead of phased unfreezing to prevent attackers behind the Binance hack from establishing large positions.

DeFi risk and transparency service provider LlamaRisk posted in the Aave governance forum that it will lower borrowing caps for major lending markets via the Risk Steward mechanism ahead of the phased unfreezing of Aave V3 and V4, to prevent attackers from the Binance hack—who still hold large amounts of ETH, stablecoins, and governance tokens—from using remaining borrowing limits to establish large positions in the first few blocks after unfreezing. The adjustment will cut unused borrowing limits by roughly $3.7 billion for Aave V3 and $130 million for Aave V4. According to LlamaRisk data, Aave V3 and V4 reserves were previously frozen due to the Binance hack, with attackers having borrowed 19,762 WETH from Aave V3 Core. The adjustment targets markets where pre-hack borrowing exceeded $10 million and had more than $10 million remaining under their caps; the new cap is set at the higher of the pre-hack borrowing amount and current borrowing amount, plus a 2% increase. The adjustment covers assets including WETH, USDT, and USDC across multiple Aave V3 instances such as Core, Base, Arbitrum, and Plasma. For example, the WETH borrowing cap for Aave V3 Core will be reduced from 2.4 million to 1.79 million, and the USDT borrowing cap from 3.09 billion to 2.56 billion. LlamaRisk noted that borrowing caps can be reinstated via standard procedures later as borrowing demand recovers.

CZ responds to Bitcoin's resilience amid market downturns: Traditional market declines typically weigh on the crypto market, yet Bitcoin has demonstrated remarkable resilience.

Binance founder CZ has responded to community discussions about Bitcoin’s resistance to price declines, stating that the leading cryptocurrency’s performance is quite surprising given the larger drops seen in traditional financial markets today. Historically, downturns in traditional markets weigh on crypto prices as investors sell assets to hoard cash, but Bitcoin has shown remarkable resilience this time. Earlier, some community users noted that a $6 billion+ hack on the world’s largest crypto exchange would likely trigger a sharp Bitcoin price slump, yet the token only fell around 3% that day—leading many to believe the market bottom may be approaching.

Renowned trader: Binance’s replenishment of stolen assets could drive buying pressure, and the trader still maintains a bullish stance on Bitcoin.

Well-known trader Doctor Profit has posted that he remains bullish on Bitcoin, and believes Binance’s need to compensate for its stolen assets could generate buying demand. The portion that cannot be covered through asset recovery or the exchange’s existing holdings will need to be repurchased, though the exact purchase amount has not been revealed. Doctor Profit estimates the incident involves around $6.3 billion, of which roughly $3 billion has been frozen. He projects that after Tether and Circle reissue the corresponding assets, the remaining gap will stand at approximately $3.3 billion, equal to about 2.05% of Binance’s total assets. Based on this, he judges that if no more funds are frozen later, Binance will need to repurchase roughly $3.3 billion in crypto assets, including Bitcoin, and views this potential replenishment requirement as capital inflow. Doctor Profit added that the incident has not shaken his bullish stance: he still holds his Bitcoin long position opened at $80,400 and spot Bitcoin bought at $60,000. He noted that he was prepared for volatility before entering the market and will not exit his positions over this incident.
