Analysis: U.S. stock market's reaction to midterm elections hinges on the gap between the results and market expectations.

Market strategist James Oyi said in a report that the U.S. stock market’s reaction to midterm election results may depend less on which party secures victory, and more on how much the final outcome deviates from the expectations investors had already priced in. Oyi added that regardless of the election result, a clearer political landscape is expected to ease some of the uncertainty currently weighing on market sentiment. If Republicans outperform expectations, sectors favoring policy continuity could get a boost. Disagreements on priorities between the White House and Congress may slow legislative progress, but could also limit large-scale policy overhauls. He also noted that the Texas gubernatorial election is worth monitoring as the state has increasingly become a popular destination for artificial intelligence (AI) data center investment. (Jinshi)

UBS: Expectations of a Democratic "Blue Wave" are rising, potentially increasing resistance to investments in artificial intelligence and data centers.

UBS stated, "The market is currently exhibiting risk-off sentiment, responding to the growing likelihood of a 'blue wave' led by the Democratic Party. This means headwinds for investments in artificial intelligence and data centers may increase, while political gridlock and bargaining over debt ceiling and fiscal policy issues could also intensify."

Franklin Templeton: Democratic Party leading in election race, market risk aversion on the rise.

Franklin Templeton’s Head of Fixed Income for Australia, Andrew Canobi, said the initial reaction of financial markets to the U.S. midterm elections can be summed up as a slight shift of funds from stocks to bonds, showing a certain risk-averse tendency. He added that if the Democrats take control of Congress, markets may view this as a constraint on U.S. President Donald Trump’s growth agenda, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and resources. Additionally, as traders believe the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) may be nearing the end of its interest rate hikes, Australia’s three-year government bond yield has fallen by 15 basis points since the start of this week.
