According to Bloomberg, MSCI has launched a series of new indices to help investors more precisely allocate or hedge risk exposures across different segments of the AI supply chain. The indices cover physical infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and the application layer that brings AI to real-world use, enabling investors to target specific segments instead of placing a one-way bet on the entire AI sector. Jana Haines, MSCI’s Head of Index Business, stated that investors are seeking more specific risk exposures across dimensions including industry, company size, and country, and aim to segment these exposures based on their portfolio requirements. However, these indices do not address how retail investors can hedge their growing AI exposure via retirement accounts, as index hedging and speculative strategies are generally not suitable for ordinary investors. Bain & Company estimates that by 2031, the industry will need to generate $6 trillion in annual revenue to support the AI infrastructure currently under construction, while existing applications are projected to only produce $1.2 trillion by that time. New search engines, autonomous vehicles, and yet-to-emerge applications may fill part of the gap, but a revenue shortfall of trillions of dollars is still expected.

The U.S. Treasury Department said it will buy up to $60 billion in 10- to 20-year U.S. Treasury bonds as part of its liquidity repurchase operation on October 1.

The Drift Foundation has announced an update on fund recovery from the April 1 security incident, in which approximately $295.4 million in user assets was stolen. The foundation has hired Mandiant, zeroShadow, and SEAL 911 to conduct investigations and fund tracing, with Mandiant identifying the attacker as North Korean threat group UNC6862. The stolen funds were subsequently bridged to Ethereum, with roughly 130,259 ETH dispersed across four wallets. Three of these wallets have not seen any transfers to date, holding a combined 107,165 ETH; the remaining wallet transferred approximately 23,094 ETH to Tornado Cash on July 23. The foundation noted that around $9.2 million in stolen funds has been frozen so far; the relevant funds were moved via Tornado Cash in August, though their unfreezing and return will still require compliance with legal procedures. The Drift Foundation will transfer all assets recovered through freezing, bounties, or law enforcement channels to the DFX Recovery Pool, and is evaluating the future trajectory of the DRIFT token within the broader ecosystem. Additionally, the foundation has partnered with Bybit to launch a public bounty program, offering a 10% reward on successfully recovered funds.

Micron Technology is set to release its Q4 fiscal 2026 results after U.S. stock market trading closes on Wednesday. FactSet data shows analysts expect Micron’s earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter ending in August to rise roughly 940% year-over-year. If the forecast is met, Micron could for the first time in at least two and a half years surpass NVIDIA to become the largest single contributor to S&P 500 third-quarter profit growth. FactSet projects S&P 500 third-quarter profit growth of 29.1% year-over-year; excluding Micron, that figure would drop to 24%, meaning Micron’s earnings growth alone lifted the index’s overall growth rate by roughly 5 percentage points. Rising demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other storage products from AI servers, paired with relatively limited supply expansion, has driven improvements in memory chip prices and profitability. Micron’s ranking as a contributor to S&P 500 profit growth has climbed from ninth place in last year’s third quarter to sixth in the fourth quarter, and to third in the first half of this year. Another key focus of this earnings report is the mass production progress of HBM4. Mehdi Hosseini, an analyst at Susquehanna, forecasts that mass production and shipments of NVIDIA’s Rubin platform will likely be concentrated after April 2027, meaning HBM4’s significant revenue boost for Micron will mainly materialize in 2027. He projects HBM4’s average selling price (ASP) will be over 50% higher than the current HBM3e, and sets Micron’s fiscal 2027 EPS forecast at roughly $200, above the consensus market estimate of around $165. Micron’s stock has rallied nearly 280% so far this year, with a market capitalization of about $1.2 trillion.

One of the world’s largest hedge funds, Bridgewater Associates, projects that if AI remains unregulated and society is unprepared for the technological transformation, artificial intelligence could impact nearly one-fifth of the U.S. labor market. Bridgewater CEO Nir Bar Dea stated in an interview: "We are very optimistic about the positive impacts AI brings, but we also recognize that any positive thing capable of changing the world so profoundly may also bring serious negative consequences." He added: "According to our estimates, AI could affect 18% of the U.S. workforce. Just imagine how large-scale social disorder this could trigger."
