OpenAI Eavesdropping Case Linked to Saudi Royal Family: Consulate Intervenes to Secure Bail, Judge Still Refuses Release

Breaking News from Beating AI Insight: Saudi engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan, accused of planting a listening device in an OpenAI executive meeting room, was denied bail by a U.S. judge on October 19. The Saudi Consulate General in Los Angeles even offered to cover the required bail bond, but the judge noted Saudi Arabia’s nearly unlimited financial commitment was unconvincing. Citing the absence of an extradition treaty between Saudi Arabia and the U.S., the judge ultimately rejected bail due to high flight risk. Newly filed prosecution documents show Alfozan regularly contacted a Saudi royal via WhatsApp between 2025 and 2026. The royal repeatedly invited him to return to Saudi Arabia to work on an AI project, stating “Saudi Arabia needs you more than the U.S.” Alfozan replied with “100” but said he would not resign until his OpenAI stock was finalized. The FBI also found Alfozan used OpenAI’s internal Agent to access the company’s meeting schedules with Saudi government officials. His phone browsing history included a folder named “Saudi Gov Docs,” though its contents have not been made public. Alfozan had planned to take a one-way flight to Riyadh with his wife and children on October 12, but was arrested by the FBI three days before departure. The day after his arrest, his wife and children left the U.S. on business-class tickets purchased by a Saudi military official. The defense claimed the ticket buyer was the wife’s brother-in-law, a private favor, and the original trip was due to the wife’s expiring U.S. visa. Currently, Alfozan is only charged with illegal interception of communications, facing up to five years in prison. Prosecutors suspect he may have eavesdropped for personal commercial gain or to assist Saudi Arabia, but have not proven Saudi Arabia directed his actions, nor have they released evidence confirming confidential information was leaked. The investigation is ongoing, and additional more serious charges may be filed.

Anthropic is reportedly preparing a Claude model that better understands user intent, and it may be Fable 5.5.

Dongcha Beating AI Flash News: Anthropic is preparing to launch a new model better at understanding users' real intentions. The Information cited a pre-tester as saying the new model outperforms the currently available Claude in reasoning and meeting user needs. For example, when a user only asks to fix a single bug, it may further identify common issues causing such bugs and ask if they want to fix them together. The new model is also said to be better at proposing unconventional solutions: if a user consults about stock investment, it may design its own prediction algorithm instead of just repeating common analysis methods like price-earnings ratios. However, these evaluations only come from one tester so far, with no public test data available. The community speculates the new model may be Claude Fable 5.5. On October 13, LiteLLM synced `claude-fable-5-5` from the Azure model directory, but deleted the entry the next day after audit. Meanwhile, Google is internally testing Gemini 4 Carbon. Business Insider previously reported that some employees believe its programming ability is close to Claude Opus 5.5. OpenAI is also preparing a new version of Terra, with reports suggesting it may launch in the coming weeks, with further improved capabilities and an expected price lower than GPT-6.1 Sol.

Cantor Fitzgerald Reiterates Overweight Rating on Tesla, Sets Target Price at $485

Leading financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald has reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating on Tesla, maintaining its target price at $485. Analysts at the firm expect Tesla's Roadster sports car demonstration to be impressive, but its actual contribution to the company's short-term profits remains limited. They noted that the Roadster's subsequent commercialization still faces uncertainties including road legality and mass production progress, so even with an impressive demonstration, it may not quickly translate into substantial financial gains.

Wintermute: Bitcoin faces a test at the $82,500 level, with AI risks and Federal Reserve policy potentially triggering volatility.

Crypto market maker Wintermute updated its market report today, noting that multiple upcoming events—including the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision, midterm elections, and third-quarter earnings reports—could soon break Bitcoin’s current narrow trading range. A breakout above $87,000 would confirm an upward move, while a valid drop below $82,500 could push prices further down to around $70,000. On the macro front, U.S. headline CPI rose to 3.7% from 3.4% in August, with core CPI increasing 0.3% month-over-month, exceeding the market’s 0.2% expectation and stoking concerns about energy price pass-through to core inflation. Wintermute added that the recent rise in U.S. Treasury prices largely reflects capital exiting crowded AI growth stock trades, rather than improved inflation expectations. The market currently expects the Fed to hold rates steady at its October 28 meeting, but a hawkish signal could prematurely reinforce bets on a December rate hike, pushing up Treasury yields and pressuring risk assets. Within the crypto market, funds are flowing into major coins. The report shows Bitcoin’s weekly decline stands at 1.99%, the Nasdaq index is down 5.52%, and altcoins overall have fallen 5.69%. Capital has continued to flow into BTC and ETH while exiting most altcoins, with high-beta and small-cap tokens facing more significant pressure. Wintermute believes major coins currently offer a more attractive risk-reward ratio, and a broad altcoin rally may need to wait for Bitcoin to strengthen further. The firm also pointed out that current implied volatility is low, and with the Fed decision and midterm elections approaching, the market may be underestimating subsequent volatility risks. The October 28 Fed meeting will be a key near-term catalyst, while earnings from AI-related companies will also influence market sentiment around computing power investment, financing costs, and business models.
